Gav - I have used HR tow bars and hitches for over 30 years without any issues, so would not be concerned by being a different design to the Toyota hitch.
I saw the Kedron escapade on Fraser island and am not concerned that they broke a HR hitch - those guys abuse their equipment and have no respect for the environment.
Yowie - enjoy your caravan, it's a good life and a little more comfortable than tenting.

The original HR towbar for the 120 was the same design as the HR 150 which is the same as the OE 120, if you follow that. HR changed the design of their 120 towbar to mount across the chassis after multiple failures. I wonder why they have gone back to the original 120 design...

Hi Folks

There are pictures of my and Brains Wynnum towbars in a different thread here, the reason I went with them is that don't hang down, don't cut the bumper, have a bolt to stop the annoying rattle of the hitch and are located onto the car in 6 places.

i kind of like the fact the genuine hangs down. i'll happily drag the towbar over a rock and not the rear bumper any day of the week.

that combined with the fact that it is covered under the toyota warranty as i had them install it was enough comfort for my extra $300.

Does anyone know if I can fit my factory fitted towbar of my 120 to the 150 , have read a few times that they have the same mounts ?? Agree to keep costs under the lux tax means no extras from dealer. Cheers Digger

I rang Auto extras and checked with them on the electrics. It is HR model. They now say it includes electrics but it does impact the parking sensors - that is when reversing with a tralier the parking sensors will sound, whereas apprantly with the genuine Toyota one they will not.

I was going to fit a HR hitch but then was told about the parking sensor issue.
Do the sensors only respond to the trailer when attached, or can they 'see' the tow hitch?

I was going to fit the HR as the Toyota original bar hangs down quite low below the bumper. It could be a hinderance off road and it's not exactly pretty. The Toyota bar certainly looks like the stronger option though.

I purchased the Toyota original wiring kit and I will fit this myself - just requires removal of some trim in the rear of the vehicle and a 3rd row seat. Fiddly but not difficult.

Where have all the other towbar photo's gone too???

my parking sensors go off even if i have a trailer connected - i have the genuine toyota bar - is this supposed to happen?

Just wondering if anyone has a Trailboss towbar fitted at all. I would like one from Wynum Towbars but being in north QLD bit far to go. I can't find a pic of the trailboss anywhere for a 150 on the net and the fitters here haven't done one yet so don't know how they look. If anyone has this brand or HR can you put a picture up.

Where did you get that quote? I already have my 150 ( at a good price) but now want to fit the Toyota bar, and 3 Toyota dealers all quote around $920, supplied and fitted with wiring.

Just fitted my factory Toyota towbar tonight. I was quotes about the same at $920 but could buy the parts from them for $620. This included everything needed including wiring to the towball. Comes with full instructions as well. Not a had job at all. The cut out for the bumper is actually already scribed on the back of the bumper so just cut along the lines. Only started late this arvo so really only a few hours work. Not worth the $300!!!

Can you offer any special tips that might not be explained correctly within the instruction as l will be fitting mine on the weekend, or anything to be mindfull of as a heads up would be greatly appreciated.
