    Re: Snorkle

I saw it at the Brisbane 4X4 Show and thinks the look is much better than the safari snorkel like previous models where the head is situated off the A pillar it looks dated. At least the Airtec ones are following the lines of the vehicle and look much better.

The TJM guys showed me the photos, this will be my choice as I have seen numerous Safaris taken out by tree branches when unavoidable. Also when the aero design on vehicles is done the maximum air flow is as close to the body as possible.

        Snorkel for 150 Series

I am looking at investing in a snorkel for my new Prado (150series Diesel), I notice there is only the TJM version out at the moment. Has there been any whispers of a Safari variant yet? I will also look at fitting it myself though i am conecrned about how the main airflow hole is drilled out. Has anyone done this before and can they offer me any advice.

          Re: Snorkel for 150 Series

          G'day Bushchook,

Can't say I've installed one B4. If you have a look at he Safari Snorkels website, they provide very good install instructions.
Although there isn't anything there for the 150 yet. I'd imagine it shouldn't be too long.
If ya haven't already looked at their site. They have pretty good detailed install pics and instructions for the later models.
For example, the 200 series explains the tools required and has very good detailed pics.
Fitting a snorkel doesn't appear to be too hard a job, but I personally would always prefer a snorkel to be fitted by an authorised installer, cause you don't wanna stuff up where the holes are cut and drilled.

          Just my 2c

          Cheers

            Re: Snorkel for 150 Series

            Hi Bushchook

I was in at ARB today and the Safari Snorkel is still at least a month away, as for fitting it yourself, the ARB, TJM's only charge around $150.00 - $200.00 to install with a warranty. Drill a 90mm hole in the wrong place on your guard and the rectification is going to be around the $1500.00 mark still with no snorkel or warranty, I know which way I will be going.

            Regards, Richo.

that is just about a useless post. we know TJM has released a snorkle, the first post mentions there is one and there is a number of other posts on the 150 section about the Airtec snorkle. You're not a TJM dealer are you?

this is more discussing the installation instructions AND the Safari snorkle.

i have personally installed them before, they aren't hard to do at all. The Safari snorkles come with clean instructions and templates for drill holes. i'm not sure if the Airtec ones do.

my wife doesn't like the look of the Airtec, and from it's design it doesn't look as though you can install a pre-cleaner at all as the head goes up over the top of the window.

i'll be waiting for the Safari. I'll also have the shop do the installation because of the reasons given here already, i just wouldn't want to slip with that drill and mark the guard.

                    Re: Snorkel for 150 Series

Interseting as the expression goes "beauty is in the eye of the beholder" I think the TJM snorkel is much more in keeping with the rounded lines of modern Prado's, the safari one is bit old fashioned for me, as to fitting a pre cleaner why not buy 70 something series ute or wagon they come with them as standard.

                      Re: Snorkel for 150 Series

i'd love to buy the ute.. but i don't think the wife or baby would agree.. not too fussed on the interior of the wagon.

I believe the precleaner is a simple way of keeping dust out of the filter when doing a lot of convoy dirt road work. - yes you can travel at the back of the dust - but you're never going to avoid it all.

                        Re: Snorkel for 150 Series

Ideally i would have loved to have a bought a 70 Series wagon, though like most men will make a compromise with the cook. I needed Auto, Diesel, Comfort, resale and had a budget of 60k, That leaves me with the Prado and that was about it. Choice was obvious really - so all i need to do now is set it up to take on our great country as best i can. With out blowing the budget again.

Thanks all for the input, i think i will stick with a Safari as they have been around a long time (and i prefer the look of them) and i am in no rush to get one.
