Yup, the video is great. In your excitement can you recall roughly what speed you hit the puddle at.
I must say that I haven't used the new Prado as a submarine but the missus did get it buried up to the side steps in a huge puddle two weeks after we brought it home - her first off road drive too :lol:
didn't hit it fast, but accelerated through the puddle..
When I ordered my Prado through the lease company, it was ordered with a snorkel. Dealer could not source a Toyota snorkel so delivered car with snorkel promising to get it fitted as soon as they had one.
Dealer fitted the 'Toyota' snorkel today. It has Safari written on it! I liked the Safari snorkel so very happy.

I finally bit the Bullet last week and fitted a Safari Snorkel to the 150. I was apprehensive after hearing the changed harmonics in 2 others but was assured that this issue had been fixed with a series of rubber baffles inside the snorkel.
I am happy to report that following a weekend of fun, I honestly cannot notice any difference in sound or feel of the vehicle.

i hear the difference in noise every now and then, but honestly, if i don't listen for it i can't hear it..
I have had my 150 for 11 months now and clocked 13,000km - no major off road driving yet.
I was at ARB this morning placing an order for a bull bar, winch and a few other accessories. Having seen the Airtec snorkel (curved at top of windscreen) and being encouraged by the many Airtec installations on this site, I am keen to go with the Airtec option instead of Saffari. The ARB guy discouraged me on the basis that the Airtec design was faulty - that
(a) water from the windscreen including from the wipers could get into the snorkel;
(b) there was no water draining system in the snorkel;
(c) you cannot change direction of the air intake because the entire snorkel is one piece;
(d) Saffari uses superior material in the manufacture of the snorkel.
This has caused some concerns and I am wondering if I should drop the idea of going with the Airtec snorkel and stick to the traditional look of the Saffari.
Sounds like the typical sales bs. I'm sure if you went to airtec they would give you a list of all the reasons the safari was inferior. I got the airtec and I can't say that I've ever had dramas, it's completely invisible from the drivers seat, even when driving in the rain and washing the car (drive through auto and with a hose) I've never had water in the airbox. The snorkel probably sits 10-15mm off the car so water off the windscreen passes under. Another reason I got the airtec was that apparently air flow is greater closer to the car increasing the "ram effect" sounded good to me. At the end of the day I don't really think there is that much difference IMHO...

Typical salesman sell job mis-information. The TJM Airtec and the Safari are both made from almost exactly the same material, the Airtec is not a cheap chinese import, it is made and designed here in Brisbane. The distance between the snorkel and the top of the windscreen will not cause an issue and it has been tested against this however it is true that you cannot change the direction of the head.
I have had my snorkel on our 150 now since 12kms (now just under 12000kms) and not a drop of water has made it into the Airbox. There is also a water channel system built into the top of the head to guide any water out through the lower section of the grille during heavy rain at speeds, same style of system as the Safari.
ARB forgot to mention to the old Safari wives tale, the Safari Snorkel head can get caught on tree branches etc and rip off causing huge damage to the snorkel and or car...
Only my opinion but you cannot go wrong with either the Safari or the Airtec, both good, quality Australian made gear and it comes down to personal preference.
Cheers Daniel

Hi PPers!
A snorkel is now on my list of things to get (waiting for the "I told you so" from Hutch ). On my travels for "that" fishing hole, I came past some flooded tracks that I didn't dare pass without a snorkel.
So anyway, I've seen a couple of airtec and safari snorkels on a 150 on PP and on the road and I'm liking the look of it. As people have said both are top quality, I've based my choice purely on looks (mostly). So at the moment I'm swaying towards a Safari as the head can be rotated and because I like the look.
Please post pics if you have an airtec or a safari on your 150. Also, please post the price including installation so I can get an average price (yes I know there are some prices on this thread and others, but I want more) so I don't get shafted by the 4x4 shop - I'd appreciate it if you could PM the price if you don't wish to make it public.
Cheers

Hi to everyone,
my first post outside the introductions forum. My Prado is on it way and we are looking forward to delivery, so at this point I'm trying to learn from everyone's experiences. Searched regarding snorkels and this appears to be the most helpful thread. On previous 4x4's have had safari snorkels, all positive experiences.
I read post #63 by petcar 1 "I was apprehensive after hearing the changed harmonics in 2 others but was assured that this issue had been fixed with a series of rubber baffles inside the snorkel."
and wondered if any one can tell me any thing more on this issue.
Love reading the rig builds, but since the Toyota dealer has all my money, adding accessories may be a slow process.

the other consideration is "who" will install the snorkel, the apprentice or the master?....seriously, its worth considering because a poorly fitted snorkel can be worse than none at all. Rust, loose A pillar securing bolts, non airtight seal, etc etc, you want an experienced, tradesman to do the fitting, and if that means spending a little bit more it is well worth it....in my opinion. Some folk have had some bad experiences with badly fitted snorkels. Worth thinking about So, who has experienced a professional installaion of a snorkel and can recommend an installer?
