    ^^^^ x2

It made more improvement than the DTRONIC chip, but it is better with both. If you are going to chip it as well you MUST get an EGT gauge fitted or you stand a good chance of doing damage. I would love to know how many of the chipped D4D's that failed had EGT's fitted. Ignorance is expensive bliss.....

After a lot of deliberation I installed a Steinbauer with high flow muffler. Chose it because it doesn't alter common rail pressure which is what does all the damage. Makes towing a bit more relaxed.

Ive got a diesel power chip in mine. Whilst I was browsing the web page. I came across this warning

Please note - for all wire-in modules, the use of hid spotlights and headlights will damage the diesel power module - refer to warranty page

That's a new one, hasn't affected my DTRONIC (UNICHIP) in the last 8yrs/80000K.

Advice i have been given by experts is if you need a chip and exhaust to get more power then you bought the wrong car and you should get a Landcruiser V8.

My mate had exhaust and ECU remap done on his Pajero and he finally admitted last week to me that knowing now what he does and all the issues he has had he wishes he never did it.

Each to their own but i have to admit if you want the grunt and speed of an SS Commodore then buy that and if you want to tow more then buy a Cruiser or bigger powered vehicle.

            Just an opinion.

Don't Agree at All. Maybe someone needs the use of a hilux dual cab or finds the cruiser to big.

The modern day diesel engines are so far advanced and capable these days. My last 3.0 D4D hilux had a HKS Fcon ID, Complete Exhaust system. GTurbo stage 2. We travelled for 9 months towing 2 tonne in over 40° heat up in the Savanah and it didn't miss a beat.

The power and torque was double standard. It was a absolute pleasure to drive. The bloke I sold it to 18 months ago still calls me to talk about the vehicle.

I could have bought a V8 200 series and had even contemplated it before modifying my hilux. I installed a canopy and the storage room in the back was double that of a 200. 1300 long drawers for starters.

Anyway your definitely entitled to an opion and there's mine from my own personal experience.

There's not a one 4wd does it all out there. That's what makes this hobby so much fun and FYI I have plenty of mates who have chipped their V8 Cruisers. If you call any of the live dyno tuners, the most popular vehicle on the dyno is the lc79 v8 turbo and the 200 v8 TD

              Have a nice day !

Yep sounds like you have had a great experience. I've got 2 mates with issues based on chips which is probably why i am cautious but I am certain there are plenty of people like yourself that have had good experiences.

Each to their own i guess.

The gamble with this pistons is pretty much like car insurance.

Most of us have not crashed the vehicle, so we could cancell our insurance & save lots of doh!
Most will get lucky, most pistons don't crack. Just like most people don't crash their vehicle, although there is plenty that do, so we see it as a risk of many thousands so choose insurance to avoid it.

Insurance on a 1kd: keep your injectors fresh (new denso made in japan only) to prevent wrong combustion/overfuelling.
Avoid any other device, chip or tune that makes more power or torque.
More = more pressure on the weak point & more risk. Captain risky? Each to their own as Olly said.
It's great many vehicles highly modified have lasted, but it's short distances really.
Plenty with bad Injectors or chips have detonated.

UNTILL 2 weeks ago we had a history of 0 detonations on the vehicles we have maintained or replaced Injectors on.
2 went in one week! Both had good Injectors, but chips for about 20,000k.
One was a hks fconid & on steinbauer.
If you check amts servey, which I looked at once, it pretty well coinsides with what I hear about for years.
There are a high number with steinbauer chips. As soon as Toyota see a chip zippo to your warranty.

Remember each to their own, we are just warning you, our opinion from what we see. It's real.

                  Cheers,

See my thing is that I have had two hilux d4d 3.0 litres go BANG on me with no modifications at all. Dead stock standard. So what I'm saying is how can the chip be soley blammed when they go BANG without the chip ???

If they go BANG without a chip how does increasing the specific output and stressing the engine further make them less likely to go BANG...

Don't forget in Europe you can buy a piggyback chip from Toyota, and it's covered by Toyota warranty.

The Euro D4D comes out with around 140kw so in theory the 127kw Aussie version is under stressed. Shame about the design flaws with injectors and pistons.

Off topic but has anyone driven the new v6 Amarok? I wonder if they will release a 4 door wagon version at some point, would definitely throw the cat among the pigeons.

If you think Toyota's "customer experience" is engaging, wait until you dice with VW! (Unless you are Pat Callinan of course.) ;-)
