  • ARB Air lockers

    Hi guys,

Just happened to be browsing the ARB website the other day looking at 150 Series accessories and they had air lockers written down for the 150 Series just wondering if anyone has actually made enquires to ARB about fitting air lockers to the 150 Prado, the missus is already keen to get some so not gonna hold her back if you can get them already.

Also wondered whether the 120 series locker would just fit straight in??

    No way :!:  ....

You'd have to assume they are one and the same lockers.... the 150 carries over the 120's drivetrain.

      Re: ARB Air lockers

Had some spare time today so rang ARB to ask about lockers.

Front locker is the same as the 120 Pardo and so is available now for $2285 with the compressor (the one you can pump tires up with)
Rear locker how ever is supposed to be ready around mid april.

          Hi,

As a newbie to 4x4 driving, could someone please explain what air lockers are used for? Should I get them for my Kakadu? And will I be able to get a lift kit for it?

Not sure about the later because of the rear air bags and the auto ride adjust thingy??

          Thanks.

PS I still would like to know how to get a pradopoint sticker

Mechanical traction device.... to save me a lot of typing see:

            http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Locking_differential

            or search this forum....

Should I get them for my Kakadu?
It already has very effective traction control. My advice would be to spend your money on something else. As your expierence grows and you reach the limits of the factory traction control then maybe consider them in the future.

And will I be able to get a lift kit for it?

Not sure about the later because of the rear air bags and the auto ride adjust thingy??
Yes.... PM Darren (assassinoffroad) as he is very knowlegable in lifting Prados with air suspension.

Also look in the 120 suspension section for a couple of threads on this (120 Grande has rear air suspension)

See the "Sticker" thread for up to date details.

Am thinking of getting the ARB CKMA12 On-Board compressor to support the ARB Locker in the future and am wondering if anyone has fitted this under the passenger seat in the 150 series yet and if so do you have any pics?

Personally Id be going for somewhere in the engine bay so you dont scrape, drag, ding, bang, etc the pump on everything being under the body.

I think he means under the seat inside the cab. I have my air locker compressor mounted under the drivers seat in my 80 series handys as, never have to open the bonnet to have access to it, keeps all the mud and dust and other crap out of it as well. leaves space under the bonnet for other things.

Wouldnt that be really loud being inside the cabin?

Yep, i meant in the cab directly under the seat. It is a fairly common location that mates of mine have fitted in other models of 4wd's and though noisy is very convenient as mentioned by cruisercruising especially since I will mainly use it for inflating the tyres and only want the "option" of using it for air lockers in the distant future if I go down that path.

                          Simba,
if you don't have the Radar cruise control pack you already a rear locker as standard. It is electrically operated rather than air operated.

                            Hello All,

Just sold the 80 series and now have a considerably different 150 series GXL Auto. I asked when I ordered if a diff lock could be ordered , electronic like the Kakadu and trusted the salesman when he said no. If I could have got the factory one I would have. In any event I haven't had a vehicle with traction control before and wondered if I fit and air locker will it affect the traction control. Should I turn the traction control off when locker is activated? If anyone could let me know that would be great.

Its not really that bad your normally concentrating on other things other than the noise any way. Put it this way its not loud enough that when it comes on for couple secs to keep air into the lockers thats it scares the living day lights out of you.
