• SOLAR PANEL MOUNTING IDEA

With the down sizing from a LC100 to the Prado 150 I lost quite a bit of cargo space.

My folding GP100W Bi-fold solar panel which was normally carried in the cargo area is now replaced with a single 80W panel that slides in under the Rhino Rack.

I have taken some step by step pictures of the mounting, I will post the pictures of the locking device after I fit the locks.

    Regards

    Derek

    Very clever - I want.
A couple of those would almost double as a sun canopy.

Man, what a great mod! I was wondering whether the panel is likely to flex under the roof rack and crunch the roof? I'd love to see the locking mechanisms after you get them installed. Good job!!

No flex and the gap is still about 60mm to the roof.

                Re: SOLAR PANEL MOUNTING IDEA

Have you got it wired in all the time or just run a cable for when you pull it out??

You have a great idea there I would have never thought of that. My idea was way more elaborate and inconvenient.

Cable and regulator are in the car, I pull the panel right out (removed from car) and plug in the cable.

I used a 2nd plug (no wires connected) to hold the panel plug in place so it is always clean and does not flap in the wind.

I have used a all weather grade lock to prevent theft. O-rings stop the lock from rattling.

Hey Derek where did you buy your solar panel? Is it Ok to use any inverter or when you buy the panel there's a free inverter on it? It's awesome man. I'm gonna install my van to for the appliances inside of it.
Where's the cheaper panel is it in Solar Panels Brisbane or Solar Queensland?

Awesome, had a similar idea to slide out the back of the rack but could work out how I was going to do it/Mount it to the underside of the rack. Very simple and clever
