At the moment I have no desires to be making anymore products, I have enough to keep me on the go as it is and some major jobs I have been putting off that need to start soon, least of which not being a new camper trailer, so don't hold your breath waiting for me to start producing kits for fitting trans coolers.

Crossover Camper Trailer (MCCT)
This has been a very long time in the planning but finally I have started the build on our new Crossover Camper trailer, or as our son has dubbed it the MCCT (Minimal Canvas Camper Trailer).
I have been thinking about this for years, talking about it for nearly as long and been through a multitude of designs and options. After many years of camper trailer camping we have a pretty good idea on what we want from a camper, so here are the main things I want to achieve from this build.
1. Serious off road ability, I don't want the trailer to limit where I can go, if the Prado can get through I want the trailer to be able to follow, I want it at least as capable as our current trailer but am aiming for improved off road performance.
2. Fast set up, those that have seen us set up our current soft floor camper will know we can get it up faster than some people can roll out a swag, but we still want a faster simpler set up. I am hoping for under 2 minutes for a full setup!
3. Minimal canvas, too many times packing up wet canvas, or canvas making unwanted noise during windy nights means we are a bit over canvas.
4. We don't need much inside room, we rarely ever spend time inside our tent other than to sleep, so we need a bed, a kitchen unit and pantry storage, storage for clothes, chairs, water, fuel etc, and some outside shade. A few lights and other luxuries also won't go astray.
Suspension was the first thing to consider, despite having had great success with the simple leaf spring beam axle setup we have run for years and years, I wanted to go independent coil for the improved ride that it gives. Trailing arm independent suspension with airbags was almost the way I went, but ultimately over the years it has become obvious to us that the best suspension system on any trailer is the asymmetric independent suspension on the Tvan, which has been modified and copied by a couple of other manufacturers as well. So after MLC kindly lent me his Tvan for some research I decided that was the way to go. I tried without success to buy some Tvan suspension, so that lack of success means that I will make my own suspension components.
First job was to get the stubs and brakes ready, the stubs came with a nice coat of surface rust on them, so a quick clean up before setting up to weld on the brake backing plate, retaining flange.
The Asymmetric suspension required a couple of radius arms, so I made a couple of those.
I didn't have a large enough piece of plate for the hitch plate, so I made one out of 2 pieces.
Not much to see yet, but here is where I am at with the chassis. main rails are 125x75x3mm and the drawbar is 100x50x2.5mm, the small piece at the rear is just a bit of scrap to hold things together for the setup.
And just a couple of weld porn pictures, if your into that sort of thing
Obviously there is lots more to come, I will update it as I go.
Cheers AndrewSo Long and Thanks for all the Fish!
