I like the colour matched bullbar. Gives the Prado a bit more of a presence. Will go down that route one day.

It's amazing the difference the colour coding makes on the spot lights. They look completely different once the bar has been colour matched
Yeah who would have thought a coat of paint could turn a 25 year old set of nasty Narva's into a set of IPF 900XS

I finished the wiring of the spotlights tonight. As I haven't got the fog lights fitted (will probably add driving lights to fog light position I think) I have utilized the now redundant fog light switch as my spotlight isolator. I used the following wiring diagram that i "borrowed" from this thread viewtopic.php?f=16&t=5943&start=0 thanks to ozwapet2.

it has the bonus of having an indicator light on the dash (fog light indicator) to let me know if spotlights are on, they are also hooked up to the high beam so it is all legal.

After the fitting of my ARB bullbar I noticed that the inner guards were attached to the bash plates with electrical ties, after reading the fitting instructions I found that this is the recommended method  I figured I could do something a bit better so I made a couple of flat bar strips to go behind the plastic guard with nuts welded on to make installation easy.

They were really very easy to install, can’t understand why ARB don’t supply something similar. Strips are made from 25mm x 3mm flat bar, 180mm long with holes drilled at 150mm centres and 6mm nuts welded on. It all seems much more solid now 8)

        Cheers Andrew

Nice fab work but be careful as when the bar flexes it may rip them out. Mine had cable ties and it broke the plastic vent pieces dut to the bar flex.

I think most of the original cable ties on mine have ripped out as well. From memory there is only one remaining. Would be interesting to see what they do on the TJM or Iron man equivalent bars.

I also have the cable ties, and like Nick mentioned most of mine have broken off over time. I drilled an extra hole in the middle so I could refix with 3 cable ties instead of the original two used by ARB. Still allows them to 'break where required' due to flex...

Its a good mod, very tidy finish!!! Interested to hear how it all holds up over the next couple of months...

The cable ties obviously tear or break anyway, one of my cable ties had broken already and apart from a few sand dunes and a beach run on the weekend it hasn't left the bitumen. With a lot more surface area holding it in place I don’t think it will tear out, it may flex and crack the inner guard, possibly, but only time and corrugations will test it out, like any other modification.
It might take more than a couple of months to find out though, My Prado is not my daily drive, apart from moving it from the shed back to the carport I may not drive it again until next year  still this means that the vast majority of the Km's I do are involved in some way with going bush

I need some help from anyone a bit more computer savvy than me, for some reason many of the pictures in my build thread, and others i have posted elsewhere in other threads have disappeared :? it seems to be fairly random, all pictures have been added using the same method with postimage. I could go through and edit each post but it would be a lot of work. Anyone got any ideas :?:

Seems to be a postimage.org server failure - possibly site upgrade... Not an issue with your images as such. Probably find this is across the entire forum.

EDIT: Unsuccessfully managed to check other's links to postimage.org - couldn't find any?? I'm sure its common though! Nevermind thats not the important part! Even your latest phots are suffering the same issues as your fist ones, so i doubt its anything to do with your side or viewing frequency. The common factor between missing files is the 's1' &' s3' hosting servers (servers 's2' & 's4' are still working) - so I wouldn't do anything just yet mate.

Sit back and wait for everything to come back online... If the issue continues for a day or more then we'll look at it again!

Andew, a number of the image hosting sites will only host an image for a period of time. This is usually dependant upon the number of times per month this is viewed. I have just followed a few of the images you have posted through and it appears they are no longer there. I havn't used Postimage before but have used Photobucket and the only issue I have had is when at work the photobucket site (as well as postimage) is blocked and I can't see the photos. I haven't had the same issue you have experienced.

Went into the local auto store the other day and spotted a Projecta 300 watt inverter for $24.95, I quickly grabbed it paid my money and got the hell out of there before anyone worked out that they forgot to put the 1 at the start of the price

I have fitted it to the side of my top drawers in the rear of the Prado, right next to my second battery. I found that some scrap sail track was just the ticket for and easy install after adjusting the gap in the sail track with the vice.

Well after a lot of research I have purchased a new winch, whilst it would have been nice to go with a Warn I just couldn't justify the cost given that I don't expect to be using it every other weekend. For $845 for a Tigerz11 with plasma rope I thought this was the best value for money I could find, several other PP members run this winch and reports seem to be that they are a good thing.

Just got to find the time to install it now.

When you have fitted the winch free spool all the rope off then power on under tension, pusling the winch. I do it with 2 people one making sure the rope goes on neat the other with the foot on the brake to add some tension and steering.. The ropes stretch a bit so this way you won't end up with a tight knot ball on your first recovery. The other suggestion would be to find a rock climbing/abseiling place and buy some rope protector, it's bascially a nylon sleeve you fit over the rope. You can run this up and down the winch rope and use it where the rope might rub on rocks etc.

Re: AJ120s 2009 D4D and DIY camper trailer

Thanks for the advice D4D, I have been keeping an eye out for a rope protector but haven't spotted any in 4WD shops or the like, I was planning on checking out Nobles for something. If this fails ill look in the abseiling stores! The rope protector also keeps the sun of the end of the rope when not in use as i gather plasma rope suffers when exposed to UV rays.

Also have to get a snatch block and a few other things. I also intend to undergo some training in correct winching procedures before using it for real. Already have a mountain of info on winching techniques to read.

My first trip where the winch "might" get used will be in April to the Victorian high country, going with our 4WD club and our DTU (driver training unit) officer is leading the trip, so hopefully if needed on the trip i will be well schooled and have experienced help on hand.

                                Cheers Andrew
