    great thread.

just found my front right bearing to be f-ed today. car only has 155xxxkm on it. left seems good still though. this thread should be useful when i get a new one.

this video im linking is of a 4runner but as some know, they share a similar chassis with our prados, so this should be helpful if someone wants to see what goes into doing something like this (plus my wheel bearing is just like the one in the video)

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YTS4ke7nViE

anyone notice that our rhd cars have a bad right bearing and lhd cars get a bad left bearing?

You can check it's an abs one with something light like a paper clip-behind the back seal the exciter ring is magnetic. Also the genuine ones have different coloured seals.

Here is a little trick I learned for fitting the front hub weather seal. When I changed my CV shafts one of the hub weather seals needed replacement. After trying to tap the new seal in with a hammer and drift I was getting no where fast as the seal kept moving around and not seating properly. I needed something around the same diameter as the seal to spread the load of the hammer.

Light bulb moment The dust cover for the CV nut is nearly a perfect fit and allowed the seal to be hammered in quickly and easily. Just don't hit it too hard or you will damage it.

              Hi All
Thought I might share my wheel bearing experience with you.
Had both my front ones done in Feb 2014 and now my front left is noisey.
Toyota dealer initially did the job ($1100).
I was a little surprised it's stuffed up so soon so took it to the dealer and sure enough it needs replacing, quote $410 for bearing and $240 for labour :\.
Needless to say I mentioned they'd replaced two years ago and although they were understanding they said warranty only covers parts for 20,000 k's ( Ive done 90, 000 since then).
So to cut a long story short the've agreed to do the job for $450 which they say is trade cost.
Although I'm bleeding it has to be done again at all I'm glad they moved a little on price.

What do you think? Should they have stuffed up so soon? I have to admit the Prado has done a far bit of deep dirty water work but surely if the seals were replaced with the bearings at the last repair it should be able to handle it yeah? Am I wrong in assuming the bearings come with seals?

              Bah! I dunno.
              Anyway, being repaired this week.....

They should last longer. Seals don't come with genuine bearing. It's all separate and exe.

amayamas got some good pricing on genuine toyota koyo bearings right now at around $100-110. i just bought one for $170 (shipping) so pretty much half of what the dealer parts guy wants. seals etc you'll have to get separately of course

43570-60011 is the bearing part number
                    90301-92003 for the o ring
90316-72001 is the back of knuckle seal
                    90312-96001 is the between-the-hub-and-bearing seal

                      Thanks for the part numbers...
If I want to do a "whole assembly" replacement such as #### is doing, what are the other part numbers? i.e. Hub, etc, etc...to suit ABS?

Amayama quote $102AUS for a Toyota Bearing and $66AUS for the KOYO...

                        US Seller on FleaBay:
                        http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/2005-2012...AAAOSwk5FUrby~

Approx. $317 AUS for the KOYO option...???

Still not worth it if you have to wait 2 weeks to get them... prefer the local #### ones, methinks.

Hey mate, the hub p/n is 43502-60180 and the studs are 90942-02049. The bolts for the bearing is 90119-12369. That's pretty much what makes up the whole assembly. The bearing part number I gave is for a 150 which is just the same as a 120/fjc/4Runner/Tacoma/etc bearing with ABS.

How do we get a whole assembly from ya ####?

i did my bearing at work on monday and tuesday. it put up a bigger fight than i'd imagined. 30 ton press almost didn't work until it made a massive bang. after that, the inner housing was seized up on the hub and just wouldn't come off. i ended up buying a new hub and now all is good

Here are some pics of my front wheel bearing from my 2010 150 that failed at 150000 k, mechanic said he hadn't seen something this bad. Needless to say it made some pretty terrible noises!
