  • FC's 120 D4D GXL

Hello new to the site and thought it about time to post our version of the Prado,
We have purchased a 2009 TD GXL (22 July) and the mods have started, we didn't get any extras fitted at delivery to keep the luxury tax down (donation to Mr Rudd) but ordered a few extras after delivery. It takes a while for things to arrive in Alice hence the long delay in getting started   with the mods.

Whilst I was waiting I have been hovering in the background reading about all the other Prado’s and the wish list keeps getting bigger.

First blood first venture off the tar (pictured in the background) with approx. 200 k's on the clock and stock as a rock.

First mod fitting of UHF and trailer brake unit at approx. 900 k's(after much reading on this site)

Fitted last week (Friday pick up); ARB deluxe winch bar (colour coded to car) touring rack (to fit the ARB rooftop tent, still in garage); driving lights (removed from previous 4WD), headlight and bonnet protectors, weather shields for the doors 1400k's.
Towbar and trailer plug wiring complete with charging circuit for Coromal silhouette 391camper trailer.

    Dual battery under the bonnet (piranha system);

    Piranha system

    Sand grabber floor mats
As can be seen they do work

    Cargo Barrier

    Towbar and 12 pin outlet

Switch and relay for driving lights

    ARB Roof top tent

Finished UHF installs, remote head and no drill mounting bracket for the mike, also the brake controller is mounted in the ashtray hole. I have used 3m brand Velcro tape to mount all these and have had no dramas with them falling out yet.

    Fitted but not pictured (yet)
Camry Chook (Freed from the Toyota dealer at time of purchase)

I am sure much more to come and this site is such a wealth of information and also a destroyer of wealth (so many options to fit and so little money to do it with)

    Thanks
    John M

No but then again it was only fitted on Thursday / Friday last week, apparently not much difference between the ARB bar and the toyota bar and they don't change the front springs?
When we have finished fitting all the gear taken out of our previous 4wD then will more then likely end up doing the suspension but 6 years of warranty is a hard thing to give away by changing the suspension

        Re: FC's 120 D4D GXL

        Hello Again

Well the saga continues, have been busy fitting a lot of items we already had from previous 4WD. i.e.
ARB roof top tent (what a mongrel to bolt on) :|
        Driving lights
        Brake controller
        UHF and aerial
Dual Battery system (but with a new piranha controller)
Which of course meant we had to spend more dollars to make them fit the Prado  , new touring rack (old one would not fit), battery tray to mount under bonnet, additional wiring etc.
And of course the safety items, cargo barrier to stop everything from coming forward and wiping us out (we had a dual cab previously and did not have this problem) and the new floor mats etc etc.
So I have added new pictures to the original post to show some of the additions to the Prado (he has been named D2 by the 8 year old as the Ute was called diesel so this one is D2 :P )
This stills leaves me to try and shorten the outback drawers to fit and fit the water tank into the back (once again from the previous 4wd).
I am beginning to think this will never end!
Oh well I am sure there will be much more to come so till next time see ya’s

        Thanks

            G'Day OGG
From NeoVox, bought them on line (like most things required) and had delivery in about 7 days.
This is their website had no problems with them, they do 2 different brackets one for drivers side and one for passenger side (I bought both total delivered was $107.98)

Looks the goods FC! Love the silver 8)

Interesting point about the ARB bullbar only being slightly heavier than a Toyo bar. Is a winch part of your future mods?

Thanks we do like the silver as well and Yes, One of many still to come after reading this site  but not till funds increase still fitting what I took off the old 4wd. Then when I have it set up the way we want it I will look at the ride height, as I feel it would be premature to change it now when there is more to come, besides as above very hard to give Mr Toyota a freeby on part of his warranty responsibilities'

Hey FC, Regarding your newpro light switch, did you wire it so that it illuminates? Had mine fitted by a guy named Darren at autocraft in Geelong and he said that due to toyota's electrics it isn't possible to wire the switch so that it lights up. Didn't sound right to me so just wondering if you have managed to do it and if so how? Also i'll be up your way in late April hunting and fishing for a month, Hope the fishing will be good around then.

Yes I wired them to light up they actually have 2 lights in them one is wired to the dash lights (sourced from the adjacent switch) and the other comes on when load is switched on. Both lights shine thruough the same aperature so it is only the intensity that seems to change. I will have to search for the connection diagram I worked out as it was a while ago, I really just sat down with a multimeter and worked out which wire / terminal switched at what stage any half decent sparky should be able to work it out (thou they would be charging for doing this working out I would say)
Not sure where you intend to go fishing around Alice we have had a fair bit of rain but the todd is already just about dry again

Thanks FC, It would be really cool if you manage to find the wiring diagram. Will be in Alice around the 16th of April for a few days then heading up to Katherine and hopefull out along the Roper bar. If all goes well we should be hitting the Barra.

I have no connection with the yard that it is in, I don't even know where it is, but if anyone takes an interest in it happy to give history of it
