Re: Cheap iPod to Stereo Interface

I have sent the seller of these cables an email to check if it will suit my car (05 GXL with in dash stacker) and got a reply that it will not suit my car. Can anyone here with the same car please clarify if they have the same factory stereo as mine and successfully connected one of these. Thanks

      Bump.

I would also like to know this as I have the 2005 with 6stack inbuilt.

Didnt realy worry about it until sitting in the new 150 series. They have a USB input as standard in the centre console.. got me thinkin.. If I cant get a 150 series, I will make mine have the things like it.

(was thinking about changing the head unit to something with a screen, and Ipod input.)

Re: Cheap iPod to Stereo Interface

I was informed this morning over the phone by a toyota spares dude that the factory stereo (6 stack in dash) that is in my late 06 GXL (no aux input on face) does in fact have a spare aux input at the rear of the head unit. He didn't say what kind of input it was.

If this is right then it would mean that an ipod interface could be inserted, giving a direct feed rather than using a fm transmitter. What is not clear would be how to select this input.

However i'm quite reluctant to pull apart the dash without being sure on some of these things. I don't think i'll be convinced until i've seen it on pradopoint!

Actually Nick i can't see how any of these posts actually address the questions i have nor did i see how they helped the first, second and possibly third time i read them.

My query, along with others' from the same topic relate to whether an additional plug can be inserted (without disrupting the stereo's normal operation) and then if so how it can be selected. Its for the particular stereo that i have. Not for the older stereo that doesn't have the CD changer, nor for the grande which is different again. just need to read.

But really - thanks for your most helpful advice but always rememnber to read.

Pull it apart it does not take that long and I would assume that it would come up under AUX on the input part. Now what it may show is that you have to push the disc button more than once. Check your owners manual and see what it has under the use of the stero???? Just a helpful thought.

Well I appologise then. I only quickly scanned it and thought you where not sure or wanted confirmation on the plug that the headunit supported for the secon auxillary.

Actually i should apologise - sometimes reading through these posts i get the impression that any kind of deviation from a well worn topic is shouted down with a "why didn't you search?"

No problems. I had a loook in my manual when I got home (have an early model 06 with 6 stacker CD and no aux plug at front) and there is no mention of selecting an auxillary input so I got in touch with caripodcables on the off chance that they could comment on them. This is the response:

To access the AUX you press the CD button on your stereo.

The cables that I sell are not compatible with 6 stacker CD for Prado.

Bugger. Don't have an ipod but had considered one. I guess a head upgrade in the future will be the answer for me

Has anyone looked at these on ebay USA?

                      http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/2007-07- ... ioQ5fVideo

There are quite a few different types for Toyota/lexus GX470(Yank Prado)

Seems to me like they could work.

                      Edit;
Have a look at the maufacturers website, they also do a hard drive interface.

Re: Cheap iPod to Stereo Interface

I installed the soundlinq2 (SL2Vi) http://ozdnn.rapidtrade.biz/aice/#&&category=17-26-55 on my 07 Grande a couple of weeks ago. I ordered it online from the importer, not cheap $540 delivered overnight.

Comes with many different cables for varying Toyota/Lexus setups but I found cable #5 worked nicely with my system using CD/MP3 emulation. No cutting or splicing of cables needed. Had a couple of questions during the install and emailed advanced ice on a sunday and received replies within 2 hours, most impressed with their customer service.

I use it with an 8GB nano, with songs organised in folders the system works great. I zip tied the box next to the head unit behind the silver fascia panel (big void there) and ran the ipod cable down through a gap and up into the glovebox, can't be seen unless you are cleaning the car.

There area couple of system limitations (limited by the 26028 head unit I believe) - can't view a list of folders or list of songs in the folder, but it does come up with folder and song playing name. Can only watch video when stopped and can only select the video playing from your ipod (ie can't see a list of videos or cycle through them like you can the songs).

Pushing the disc/aux button cycles through - Standard 4 disc CD/MP3 stacker then Ipod (shows up as 6 disc stacker and when you push each disc, changes from Playlists to Artists to Songs to Genre etc) then third push gives DVD to play video when stationary then 4th push is back to CD changer.

Other bonus is you can get the system to automatically accept the GPS warning screen after 5 seconds.

Overall very impressed, it is expensive but its integration with the factory head unit is great and considering it is the most used accessory on our Prado day to day, worth every cent.

I've also got the in dash 6 CD stacker on my 2005 GXL, if anyone works out a solution for the ipod please post it (with pics if possible).
Running CD's at the moment, have been tempted to get an FM transmitter, but as said, the sound quality isn't too fantastic....

                          Cheers,

I am interested in something like this, what year prado was it installed on and did it have the 6cd stacker?? as i heard that these may not have the auxillary port on them?

I trialled a new adaptor from CariPodCables in my D4D with a 6 stacker and eventually got a set up that works fine. There's a socket in the back of the stereo that the plug clicks straight into. I've got a post under 'Electrical' in the 120 Prado section. Not sure when they're marketing the units, but I assume the final price will be similar to their other adaptors (i.e. quite inexpensive.) Send them an email and see where they are up to with putting them on the market.
A much better solution than the FM transmitter.
                              Good luck

It allows my iPod to operate with the factory stereo, making my iPod audio as clear as a CD and allowing me to charge the iPod at the same time.

The adaptor was purchased through eBay for a total cost of $84.95 (that included postage). It took 48 hours to arrive and installation took me about 20 minutes.

The adaptor connects to the spare CD changer port on the rear of the stereo - this port was available on my stereo, even through a CD changer is not an option. You then select the adaptor using the CD button (one press goes to the CD player, press again to the iPod adaptor, press again to go back to CD etc).

There are other adaptors available (I can think of the VIAS as one) but most are well over $200. This is a bargain in comparison.

This adaptor does not display the song names being played on the stereo or allow control through the radio, but as I didn't want this feature anyway (seems pointless on a one line 20 character display!) it doesn't affect me, however it may be something you want.

The eBay seller I purchased this adaptor from was "caripodcables" but you may be able to get them from elsewhere - and I have NO connection whatsoever with the eBay seller mentioned, apart from being a satisfied customer!

                                Cheers,
