Just picked up a second hand Tvan, now need a brake controller. Has anyone used the Redarc Controller? The remote head kit makes it look easy to install, but are they any good?

Re: REDARC BRAKE CONTROLLERS
Hi Chips,
Welcome to pradopoint,
No personal experience with the Redarc unit.....have a Tekonsha P3 personally, which are great.
There has been a bit of discussion on myswag, have a look here: http://myswag.org/forum/index.php?topic=2617.0Rob

Re: REDARC BRAKE CONTROLLERS
Thanks for the link, others are saying how neat the fitting is but I am still unsure how well it works, I can't tell from Redarc's website whether it has progressive braking like some of the others, but as the Tvan only weigs 750kg dry I'm not sure I need progressive braking anyway. Think I might buy one and find out.

Re: REDARC BRAKE CONTROLLERS
I have used the Redarc Brake controllers on a number of vehicles at work and they have been really good.
As far as I know they have progressive braking.
Another source for brake controller reviews is on the www.campertrailers.org
web site, in the tech tips section.
The particluar article I am thinking about is here.

Hope this helps

Re: REDARC BRAKE CONTROLLERS
Thats the most informative article I've read on electric brakes. It appears that the Redarc will always give the same braking (depending on the dial setting) no matter what the situation, gentle stop or white knuckle, while the P3 type brakes the trailer hard or soft, the same way you are braking the tow vehicle. Looking at ebay I found the P3 was about $60 cheaper than the redarc and came with a circuit breaker, so I let my wallet decide. I also found that sidewinder.com.au has 3 core cable with 1 brake wire for the trailer plug as well as 2 heavy wires for the Anderson plug which should make wiring a bit simpler.

Re: REDARC BRAKE CONTROLLERS
I installed a red arc unit in my car. It is not progressive, the only thing controlling it is how far you turn the dial, and as soon as the brake lights come on it will apply that level of braking.
So, it is not "smart" like the P3, but i like it because it fits in nice and neat and it doesnt try and out smart me (not hard). I installed it in the blank next to the auto changer to it is really easy to adjust (which i guess that you do a lot compared to the P3) but not in the way.
