  • Colour coding the Safari snorkel.

    Hello all,

I have decided to fit a Safari snorkel.
What is the opinions of the members about colour coding to match the vehicle.
The black snorkel looks very 'in your face' while a 'painted seems to look better.

I don't think we can get colour-coded snorkels in Aus... can we? If we had that choice, I'm pretty sure they would be seen on a fair percentage of trucks.

I reckon if you like the look, then don't let anyone talk you out of it - Be the fashion leader

Heck! I never knew you could get colour coded snorkels either! I guess the good thing about the black plastic is that it'll cop a beating and you won't be too worried about it. If you get it painted it might just start looking dirty as soon as you hit a swarm of bugs or something. I suppose you could always mix & match..... like put a Flinders Red snorkel on a Silver Prado.... :? I'd have to see a few before you'd convince me though.

        I've seen a few done....... personally I think it's a bit much,
The couple I have seen were white and silver. The white was .... 'just too much white', the silver looked better, but it's a very individual thing

Never seen one. The paint would have to be pretty good though. If it started to peel and chip it would look like crap.

Not a fan of them personally prefer the black, also if doing it be careful as I have seen a few with the paint starting to peel and it looks awful.

                Thanks to all,

The snorkels all come in black.
My local vehicle spray painter said with the right base coats, and top coats, the paint remains almost flexible.

I would be looking at getting mine done silver, like my 120.

Sure the bugs would stick to it, just like they stick to the front of the 120, nothing a bucket of warm soapy water doesn't soften up, and wash off

I don't plan on much 'restricted byways' so would not look towards getting it bashed.
More of an 'open country' and sand and dust prevention than any thing else.

Quicky on the forum has a silver snorkel on his silver prado. I think it looks good, but white on white would be a bit much as Signature035 said.

Re: Colour coding the Safari snorkel.

Another Dune D4D up here in Kal has a matching snorkel. It looks good and I was actually considering painting my the same but when I stand back the snorkel fits in with the dark bonnet protector, charcoal of the ARB bar, the charcoal antennae, and the black windscreen surrounds, and the black roof rails, and the charcoal side steps and the charcoal window tint and it looks very much in place.

If done properly the paint will stand up to more rough play than the pissy thin paint on the fender flares and rear bumper.

once upon a time.... to paint bumpers and other flexible plastics there was stuff called 'flex-aid' that was added to the paint to make it bend a bit. No idea if it's still used but a chat to your spray painter would clear it up.

Yes, it's still available as well as a proper plastic primer.

Re: Colour coding the Safari snorkel.

Depends on how keen you are to have the snorkel and vehicle match.

If you don't want to risk the paint chipping or flaking off the snorkel, you could respray the car black..............

                          Sorry, it's early........
