Hi Guys, we just purchased a Coromal Camper with Bridgestone 693's 265/75/16. My question is, I am looking at replacing the tyres on the Prado (Nexen Roadian) with the same tires that are on the camper, this way I can rotate the tyres between the Prado and camper. However, there only seems to be around 25mm gap between the tire ( 265/70/16 ) and the inner guard/mudflap. I have a 2 1/2 inch lift. Has anyone fitted 265/75/16 with out having to do any modifications to the guard, and will they rub. Its the wifes shopping trolley most of the time, and if she hears a noise.....well we wont go there.

G'day mate, the 265/75's should be fine. I had mine fitted before i had the Prado lifted and never had any issues with rubbing, i have more aggressive tyre's than the Bridgestones also so i don't think you'd have any probs. You'll find that most people go for the 75's over the 70's when up grading tyres.

    Cheers,

Thanks Allan, tried a Bridgestone D693 265/75/16 on the front this morning and it rubbed on the mudflap. Look like I will have to stick to the 265/70/16. That being the case, I can get Maxxis Bravo 751's for $189 each fitted.

        Hi Michael

Don't give up on the bigger tyres. I reckon your tyre fitter should be able to adjust the castor at the front to creat more guard clearance. Thats what they did for me when I went to 265/75 Goodyear silent armours which are pretty square shouldered tyres. I have the tallest ridepro springs at the front but drive a diesel with steel bar, dual batteries, compressor, etc so I only have about 2 inches of lift over standard. They clear the guard fine now even under full compression whilst turning. Are the camper rims Prado rims? ( assuming you mean you tried the camper tyres on for clearance) Reason I ask is that rim offset also plays a part in tyre clearance.

        Cheers

          Re: 265/75/16 or 265/70/16

its probably just a little rubbing on the plastic inner guard. There is a small bit that just sticks forward abit and you probably find it only rubs while compressed at full lock, which wouldn't be often.

I had 265/75's with ome 2inch lift and it was fine.

            Re: 265/75/16 or 265/70/16

Thanks for the info guys. The rim on the camper is a white steel rim. Offset looks very similar to the Prado. The tyre rubs as soon as it touches the bulge in the mudflap all the way to full lock. Caster" how far can it move forward, and will the effect any other components, steering etc. I'll order them and try them on the Prado rim. It did look HEAPS better with the 75 series. Did you notice any loss of power or increase fuel consumption going to the 75 series?

            Cheers

                Re the PM Mike,
I have Cooper ST's with, I believe, much deeper tread than the D693's so I can't imagine you'll have any problems with the new tyres.
Looking forward to some pics of the new shoes

I didnt know the still made the D693. My work ute had these on from the Factory, now running D694 and they are a better A/T pattern Both are still a good tyre.

Tyres on and they look great. Fill in more of the wheel arch. Around 10mm gap between tyre and mudflap. The rims off the campervan must have a different offset to the Prado rims. Will post pics soon.

Have you ever considered 235/85/16. It might not be as wide as the 265, but it is still a 32" tyre, so if it's ground clearance you're after I reckon this is something to look into.
