  • SIK-120 : Steve's 08 D4-D

Hi all, My name is Steve, Living in Darwin, N.T. i thought the Prado has enough basic stuff now to post up a thread on it.

    Specs:
    Toyota Prado 120 series
Only a GX. don't need anything else
    3.0L D4-D intercooled turbo diesel
    full time 4WD
    it's WHITE
    NO TRACTION CONTROL
    NO AUTO HILL DESCENT
    NO D.A.T.S (stability control)

Got the windows tinted the day after i picked it up.

so far i have only fitted new boots.
Mickey Thompson MTZ 265/70/17 on stocko rims

Had to make a spacer for the rear door wheel carrier cos tyres got too much meat. spacer is 15mm.

also fitted up Mr. SCANGUAGE II on board computer/monitor unit. its also sitting under a MSA dash Organiser.

i also have a whole heap of other gear in the back.
    ARB portable Compressor
    ARB tyre Guage
ARB E-Z tyre deflator (kicks stauns!)
    ARB 8T Snatch strap
    Bow shackles
ARB 12T Tree Protector Strap (doubles as tow strap)
St. Johns Off Road 1st Aid Kit

mods on the super slow going wish list:
    Snorkel
    Spotties
    Suspension
    Air Lockers F&R
and an upgraded stereo when money permits

      Re: Steve's 08 D4-D

All good stuff Steve. I got a GX as well and am very happy with it. I ended up getting the GXL alloys with it and had the ABS system put in it as well. I really only did the ABS for eventual resale value because I think before too long even the basic models will have this. Eventually I thought I'd put a better sound system in it but honestly the Toyo one isn't too bad. Plays MP3's and all! So I might put that money elsewhere. Was going to fit a reversing camera in it which I still may do. Only question will be where to mount the screen if I still have the stock stereo in it. Jury's still out, the fact that Toyota have all the gear to fit a screen in that stereo area is very tempting though. GXL's came with climate control when I bought mine, didn't really care about that though, never had it before so I wasn't going to miss it. All the ducting for rear air con is apparently there (haven't checked myself) so I'll leave that for when I find a nice wrecked Prado to get bits off.

Yes - looks good. Where's the snorkel? And don't forget to add a Pradopoint.com sticker - so I don't feel as though I am the ONLY one driving around with one looking for another in Darwin! 8)

                Re: Steve's 08 D4-D

just a quick reply. sitting in Coober Peedy ATM.

Snorkel was done after that pick. All the gear was a last minute thing before the trip down here. the prado is absolutely chockers, handles very nicely @ 130km/h + (not that you're allowed to)

                OME885's up front. (measures 805mm)
                OME896's up back. (measures 870mm)

will be changing shocks and struts when i get home. will let you guys know what i do.

extremely happy with the ride, but need more height. so will be adding spacers when i get home.

i will post some more pics when i get back. and thanks for the comments guys.

Looking good there Steve. I've got the ARB bar with IPFs with clear covers as well. I had considered clear vs blue vs amber and in the end, including info off here and talking with others it just seemed that the majority thought that the coloured covers didn't give anything but reduced light distance.

Just curious about your arrangement of spotties. It looks like the outer two are spreads and the centre is a spot/pencil beam? Not 100% sure as the reduction in the photo makes that hard to tell.

yeah, the lights are spreads on the outside, and the centre one is a spot beam. i wasn't overly impressed with the spot beam, and running two spreads was a lot better suited to where i drive. only reason i put the spot i the centre was to get a bit more distance for those road markers.

the coloured IPF covers look good, but thats about it. they do reduce the distance of the beam.

Love the look of the height your've gained. Looks like I might head down the OME road and get them fitted to mine.
I'm starting to get tired of reshaping my bash plates after trips.
What is the differnce in Model numbers for the OME package. 894,895,896 ? Obviously it is to do with spring rate.
With the package you went for what model numbers correspond with the ride firmness and weight of accessories fitted?

                        Regards

                          OME Suspension lift
Lots of info on the different parts and ratings and then reviews from people who have had them fitted. Don't count the Ridepros, Kings or others out. All good and much better than standard and give you clearance.
