  • TRIP REPORT : Spicers Gap Queensland

    Hi all

Heading up to Spicers Gap tomorrow to see what it is like. Has anyone been there and if so any advice? I will try and track our route on the GPS and any points of interest. We may also head up the 14 creek crossing on the condimine river. Any help with dircetion etc would be great. Thanks in advance.

    Re: Spicers Gap Queensland

Are you talking about Spicers Gap road off Cunningham Hwy ??

Haven't been up there for a while but the eastern side has the camp/picnic ground which is pretty nice, you can get in there in a 2wd.

The western side was heaps better 4wding but is slippery in the wet. I don't think you can drive right through any more ??

There are lots of roads up here to explore, get a map and you will have a ball.

Condy is still running a little high but you will be right. It is under bonnet height. I'm sure most of the brisvegas 4wd clubs wilby down there this weekend.

This is a remote flow station below the last crossing

    Have fun

Thanks Gents for your help. We where hoping to get all the way through. We will see what happens. Thats great that the river is up. Last time we where there is was a little splash, at least now I can justify the snorkel.

        Have a good weekend

Yes we did. Great day out! A bit of a creek crossing at Spicers Gap raod and a nice hill climb. A couple of fallen trees that had been cut for a new track. I will post a few photo's and report soon.

Great day trip. I will plan another one for later in the year.

                  Re: Spicers Gap Queensland

Here are a few Photos and Commentery of the spicer gap trip for everyone to enjoy.

First start at from the western side of Cunninghams gap and headed up to spicers. The firts little test was a small creek crossing.
We then passed a couple of gates and can across what looked like the end of our trip!
Lucky for us someone had cleared a path

It looked like the summer storms had hit this area har as we came across and other fallen tree.
We headed up to the summit and stoped for a bit to eat.

We then travel back along the same route and found a nice little hill climb.
We then did a couple more creek crossing to get some photos.

We then head back down the range to the otherside of spicers Gap. We headed up the Gravel track to Govners Chair.

                  Some of the wildlife

We then went over to the condamine river to check out the river.

                  Not to High.

We then headed back to Beaudesert and back to Brissy.
This is a great day trip and I will organise another trip late in the year.

                    Re: Spicers Gap Queensland

                    Nice report Adam.

I'm very pleased to see you could get around those obstacles.

I will be up there over Easter with the extended family. Hopefully, the path will still be cleared when we get to go through there.

                    Cheers,

The Eastern side is very well maintained these days, can easily be done in a 2WD. I haven't donw the Western side for a few years but it was certainly alot more challenging than the eastern side. That said it's a bit of a distance to travel for a such a short day trip.

                              Fabes

A section of the track was closed some years ago as it is the original bullock team track that was orignially paved in stone and is being preserved for historical reasons , or so I am lead to believe. So the Eastern track runs from Lake Moogerah Rd to carpark Governor's Chair lookout. The western track runs from the Hwy to a couple of 100 meters from the car park at Governor's Chair.
