    Re: Stewy's 08 D4D

    Hello Neil,

That's great news. Mine's still working well also. The only thing I've noticed is when I turn off the headlights at night, the sound coming from the Ipod pauses for a split second.

I've also recently just bought a New Ipod Nano 5thGen 16gb for my wife, as I was getting a little annoyed of her using mine all the time. Her new Mazda has the AUX connection and 12v cig plug in the centre console.
I was going to buy her another kit from CarIpodCables like mine but she didn't want me pulling the dash apart.
Instead I just bought the Ipod Stereo/5v Charge adapter for around $35.00 on their website.
This works really well accept you can't change tracks using the stereo like you can with our adapter kit, but the volume and sound levels are perfect.

    Cheers
    Stewy

      Re: Stewy's 08 D4D

AM radio problem has emerged. I suspect that it is the antenna lead mentioned above. Essentially radio stations "drop out" and the selection button has to be hit. I supect that the lead not plugged in is the problem but I couldn't find where to plug it in . It is the thinner of the 2 foam covered leads. When I pulled the radio out to plug the iPod lead in it was already loose, probably in the act of pulling it all out. Any ideas or photos of the back of the 6 stacker?Neil

Sorry Neil, I have no pics of the back of the stereo.
I'd suggest you pull the unit out again and firmly press all the connectors into their sockets.

          Re: Stewy's 08 D4D

I will do that but the problem was that I couldn't see where it came from. Logic tells me there is a place for that skinny foam covered lead but as it pulled out when I pulled the radio out I couldn't find where it came from. Bugger! It will al have to come out again for a much closer look. I t wasn't until I was driving with AM on that the problem emerged- I t is obviously the radio antenna. What is the thicker one? lead from the 6 stacker? Neil

            Re: Stewy's 08 D4D

Well I pulled it all out again and had a very close look with a torch and mirror and the answer is........... there is a spare antenna lead because there is absolutely nowhere for it to plug in . There is no extra hole anywhere for it to go into so my guess is that it is for a different type of radio, sat nav or whatever. FYI it is the skinnier of the 2 leads tied together with purple tape in your photo 7 of pulling the dash out. For others, once you have done it once it is aquick and easy job. Neil

 - Finally.....New Tires to be fitted this week,......out with old faithfull Grandtreks

I went out to the local 4WD park last weekend for a spot of fun, 4WDing and camping.
On my way back to camp on Sunday arvo on the parks Main Track, wouldn't ya know it, I blew a rear tyre.
The culprit was a nice sharp 2inch rock slither that pierced the top out edge of the rear tyre sidewall.
I couldn't believe it as it happened on flat ground.

As it can't be repaired the other 4 Grantreks are gonna have to retire as they won't get the opportunity to make it to the 80k mark I was hoping for.
I can't complain though. I reckon they've done very well to make it to 67,000klms and I've driven them through everything except snow and overall they've performed pretty well.

The new rubber replacing them will be 5 x new MT 4rib ATZ in 265/70/17

I thought long and hard between Cooper ST's and the ATZ's.
Time will only tell if the ATZ's go the distance.

              Cheers

                Stewy,

Great choice of tyre. Had them on for just over 5,000kms now, and can't fault them. Good on road and also in the mud.

                        Stewy!

Just fixed the roof liner rattle as per your post, it looks almost identical to what you have done, just thinking...those little map light do get hot, have you had a look up there to see whether the foam has melted in any spots or is it all ok?

Well done pjorek. To this day the rattle/vibration problem has never re-occured. I had a look about a month back, and there were no signs of heat.
When I installed the foam it was tucked well away from the light globes. As mentioned in my original post, I think my rattle/vibration was stemming from the forward area of the sunglass holder closest to the windscreen.

                          Regards
                          Stewy

                            Latest IPOD Nano install

Recently I picked up a new IPOD nano to fit into the prado.
My older 4th Gen Nano finally gave up the ghost and the LCD stopped working.

The new Nano is so much smaller but still connects to the IPOD car kit controller,
so I can still control it from the steering wheel.

You can check out an earlier post here in my build up for installing the Ipod Car Kit.
I do really like this this new nano mainly cause of its size.
It has no built camera, but the menus are scrolling now and is a bit easier to navigate.
In this install I just velcro'd the back of it to the side of the centre console glove box.
As mentioned the ipod car kit I installed a year back still works on this new gen Ipod Nano.

Here's a few pics of the install and a link to Car Ipod Cables of where to get the Ipod car kit.

You can check out the car kit on this website carIPODcables

 ARB Compressor Install with a twist

I finally got off my backside and fitted up the new compressor.
I wanted the ARB model as it performs well for what I want and mounts under the hood.

The install took a while as I needed to relocate my HID light Ballast aswell.

Tucked away behind the Drivers Side headlight, I puchased a universal battery tray for $10
that supports the lights ballasts and compressor.
With this install I can remove the whole thing down the track and you wouldn't even know it was ever there.

After remounting the HID light ballasts, I finally mounted the compressor and wired it in.
You can see from the angle on the compressor that it is angled forward and the small air tank ontop is angled down aswell.

Another couple of fellas here on the forum suggested to relocate the compressors hose fitting to the bullbar,
"what a cool idea".....this way I don't have to lift the bonnet to connect the hose.

You can see the airline from the compressor coming through the front section of the car in this shot.
It then connects to a fitting on the underside of the bullbar, which the hose fitting then screws into the top side.
The airline is pictured here in the black ribbed electrical split tube shielding, just to protect the airline.

Here's a shot of the fitted remote hose connector.
The beauty of an ARB Deluxe Bar is that on either side of the bar, there are holes already for aerial mounts.
I've just used the hole on the drivers side.

You can also see the Compressor Rocker switch here.
I decided to mount it forward of the gear stick.
This way the switch is well out of the way and shouldn't get knocked by mistake.

                              cheers
