      My light is doing the same but after the weekend it has that much mud underneath i can't tell what i am looking for???

        Now hers one for u. When passing thru a big puddle of water my center difflock light came on all by it self. I was a on a dirt track so i stopped and made a u turn to see iff it had locked up the center diff it had'nt and the light went off a hour or so later. Now that pisses me off why cant they make a connector that is water proof for such a vital telltale light. Go figure. :x

            Mick, do you still have pictures of the diff lock sensor, i am trying to locate mine so I can clean it.

              The Diff Lock sensor is built into the black plastic actuator located on the back of the transfer case. There is a plug on the top which you could remove and clean. Inside the actuator is an electric motor numerous gears and the sensor. Be careful if you remove the bottom cover as the gears can easily come out and then you have a real nightmare of a jigsaw to put everything back it the right way (don't ask how I know that ). Does your centre diff-lock work or is it just a light problem?

                Thanks for the image kev.
                Another victim of the malfunctioning dash light. The diff lock definitely works, have tested it a few times in slow corners, with the tyre grip plainly obvious.
                I was wondering if there was a detailed write-up on how to get at this thing and how to fix it properly. After having read through this whole post, most of the older images are broken links.

                Being somewhat of a Prado (and electrical and mechanical) noob, I was wondering if this was something I might/should bother trying to fix myself, or just take it to my local mechanic?
                If it's an easy case of cleaning some contacts I would be disappointed in myself if I couldn't do this, however if it required taking off the casing or some such thing, I think I'll give this a miss.
                I'm still a dirt n00b, but I'll get there

                  I am having the same problem with my 07 GLX D4D manual.
                  I disconnected the sensor plug and shorted out the two wires back to the dash and the Dif lock light on the dash came on (with ignition) now to get a replacement switch unit and tail wire ... and it should be ok again (I hope)
                  Pic shows the sensor at drivers side top at back of transfer case .... with the two wires coming out of it.

                    You will need a 27mm ring spanner.

                      Sorry to rehash this but have just bought the switch and a 27mm ring combo spanner but cant get the old switch out as the spanner fouls on the casing of the transfer case. What ring spanner did you get?
