Well they've pulled it apart, the throw out bearing has "collapsed" and caused it to jam up, which has caused some damage (pics to come).

Replacing it with an Exedy after getting the pricing for a few options.

RE: OK - so which part do we need for an OZ V6 with a 6-speed manual box?

The two different parts, mentioned in the above sites are:

      1. REPLACES TOYOTA # 31230-60230 used in the 2005+ Tacoma V6 the 6-Speed Transmission.

      or

      2. REPLACES TOYOTA # 31230-60240 used in the FJ Cruiser and the 2005-2006 Tundra V6 with the 6-Speed Transmission.

Find out from Toyota or Toydiy.com what thrust bearing you have and see if it is match. My 2005 Prado used the TSK44 kit which is the replacement for Toyota Bearing 31230-60240 on a RA61F transmission.

Well mine is noisy now too.
I would like to get one of those kits from the states but the part number for the v6 is different to the diesel which I have.
              # 31230-60240 is the V6 part that the kit replaces where as the diesel part is # 31230-60250
I am going to take out the box next week at work. I'll head over to toyota spares and have a look at the #31230-60250 bearing and carrier and see if I can make up a speedy sleeve type setup on the lathe to suit. In that case I would need to bore out the new bearing to suit the made up snout sleave.
              Anyone got any better ideas?

                hey davros,
maybe its worth emailing them and asking about it, i would like to know what the difference is between the v6 and diesel, the will reply rather quick, they are very prompt with buying off them, i ordered and payed online and it was here in queensland in 3 days. the only thing i can think of is they probably dont have the diesel models over there, as the part isnt really for prados,

On the lathe it is to make the sleeve and see if you can match the bearing in Koyo of course. If your interested, I know a few people that wouldn't mind a kit for the KZJ95s (31230-60170) including myself.

I though about that Roo, but every time I have a business idea, some goose comes along and makes it cheaper!

Also, I am a bit miffed no one bit "bore out the new bearing".

Hi guys, interesting and yet complicated topic that I have been watching for a while.
I have a 2005 petrol 120 with a 6 speed with the same noisy bearing. Driving me mad again. At one point I removed the cover in front of the slave cylinder and manage to lube up the bearing a little, which really reduced the noise for a while. But it has returned.
I am assuming my vehicle could be on its 1st clutch (have owned since 117,000km, now done 176,000km)
Question......will replacing with a new clutch and thrust bearing guarantee the noise will not come back after say 20-30,000km?
Figured I may as well do the clutch while the box is out even though it is not slipping or showing signs of wear.

                    Would appreciate your thoughts.
                    Thanks.

                      Hi Boatleg
I also have a 2005 6 speed and did the mod to the input shaft and also replaced the clutch also....got the mod kit from the US and also bought genuine clutch and associated parts to do the job from the US from a Toyota dealership who ships international via USPS even with the postage I saved hundreds. For peace of mind do the mod it's a better fix than what Toyota Australia offer just put their heads in the sand hoping the problem will go away and charge you for parts that will not fix the problem in the long term.
If you need any additional info just PM me.

                      Good Luck.... NZKIWIS

speaking to a local mechanic he he has said that he has replaced the clutch and bearing on a 6 speed and the noise has come back in 3 weeks. . . so the mod that nzkiwis is talking about is the go. . for the 342 dollars its awesome difference. and once payment is cleared the part will be here in 4 days even over a weekend. ..

Will have to keep an eye on this as I'm about to pull my manual box and clutch out soon and replace the thrust bearing and fault find a transmission issue on my 06 diesel.

Hi All, have just picked up my 120 from the doctor after having the sleeve kit installed that i purchased from PDM in the USA. Also took the opportunity to install a new Exedy clutch. The difference is hardly believable, with the clutch pressure required reduced to at least half of where it was prior the fix, and all going to plan, no return of the dreaded squeak. I will try to post a photo of the original alloy sleeve as we found it. Not pretty. Pitted and worn. Partly due I suspect to the inclusion of some sand to the mix. There are some real sand traps built in to these housings. One is the size of the end of a packet of smokes, the other is the bottom drain slot, so practically no chance of keeping the stuff out. Also discovered a broken breather hose to the gearbox, checked and found no sign of foreign impact such as water. Need I say the exhaust offered up some resistance also, but that was expected. Thanks to the guys at Motorcare 4WD in Bowen Hills for working with me to fix this. Ron has taken on the business and I wish him all the best.
After seeing what can go wrong with the alloy, I am more than glad I decided to go the Stainless Sleeve option. Also a big thanks to NZKIWIS for the extra chat on the subject.
Still hard to believe the clutch is now so smooth and light. Awesome.
