  • Child restraint anchor points in 1997 model

I am looking at purchasing a second hand Prado, around 1997 year model.
Can anybody confirm how many and where the child restraint tether anchor points are located?
I gather the newer 120 series has three points, behind each center row seat. Is this the same with the older models, and does it vary at all?
Specifically, does the center row middle seat have an anchor point?
    Thanks

No the centre seat does not have anchor point but you can put a strap between the two points for the out side seat to make one.

There are 4 points two for the outside middle row seats & two for the outside very rear seats.

My wife spoke to the guys that decide the standards for NSW: http://www.mobilityengineering.com.au/
Morry there advises the second row seat cannot support 3 floor anchor points, but it would be possible to add a center point anchor if one of the others was disabled. He said this was because the seats could potentially collapse under the load if three restraints were used at once.
He also advised an anchor point can be added to the roof to give a middle anchor point in the middle row.
We picked up our 1998 with 160,000kms yesterday ;-)

Hi, just wondering how you went getting the third anchor point fitted for the middle row. I'm facing the same issue with my 1998 Prado...

We didn't go ahead, as the 1998 has two floor mounted behind the centre seat row, and two more behind the rearmost seats. Since getting a floor centre point for the middle row would cost one of the outer ones we left it, as we weren't keen on a roof based one. Otherwise, the Prado has been very good, although the 200,000km service was expensive. If I was buying another I would probably choose one with 200k+ if it had been well serviced.

Re: Child restraint anchor points in 1997 model

Cheers for the feedback. I've had mine for over 6 years now and it's now done over 260k with absolutely no signs of trouble.

I'm aware of the 4 anchor points but I removed the rear seats and fitted a shelf and cargo barrier quite some time ago. Ideally, I'd like to see if I could get 3 child seats to fit across the middle row of seats. A roof mounted point isn't my preference either...

 The plan was to let the wife have the Prado during the week so I can continue to travel to work in the luxury of my GT-B Liberty

                  Hi all

Sorry to revive an old thread, but I've just purchased my first Prado (1997 TX) and was wondering about anchor points. There doesn't seem to be any, unless you can use the 4 cargo strap loops? I have the 5 seater model.

                  Cheers

Hi Nz90, In my 2000 RV 90 there is 3 anchor points in the floor behind the middle row seats. I would assume yours is the same. You just need to have a good look under the carpet.

Have you yet, or anyone else had any luck fitting 3 child seats across the middle row in the 90?? No matter what seats I look at, I just can't seem to fit 3 in.... however I really want to as it will ruin a lot of my plans....

I have just managed to find a 3rd seat that fits in with my existing seats. See the attached photo of the anchor points.

Mine is the 7 seat model so it may be different??

                      Hope this helps anyway.

                      Cheers

Mate i think you'll find that the outta loop's you have used are tie down point's for cargo. Strongly suggest to have another look under the carpet for the hole where you need to fit the proper anchor point's to. They will be around the same distance from the seat where the middle one is in the floor.

The to do list is getting shorter.

Thanks for the advice guys I appreciate it. I had a good look under the carpet last night but no luck. I didn't even have the Middle one. All I had was some rubber bungs which looked like they pull out and likely leave a hole through the boot floor. Perhaps for fixing an anchor to? Anyway, looks like I'll have to go to get some installed.

lol! you are correct they are the cargo loops. I did find that there was a total of 3 anchor points under the carpet (2 extra same as middle one). Just had to take the plastic bung out and put the anchor bolt in. thanks for heads up.

I have finally fitted my drawers today anyway, so have had to anchor differently now anyway...

                            fun and games...

I've scanned in the "Child Restraint Anchorages" pages from the 1996 Prado Owner's Manual.
I've just adding Britax child seat to our 1996 Prado.

Our vehicle has some D-Loops already bolted to the boot's floor. These are for luggage though.
As said above, pull up the boot's carpet, where the 2nd row seats clip in and you'll see the bolt holes for the "Child Restrain Anchorages", then see where the carpet would fall ontop of these bolt holes and you'll see the carpet is already cut for you to just poke out.

I brought the Britax baby seat from BabyBunting (Perth).
The seat has an anchor strap, but it isn't long enough to reach over the 2nd row seat and down to the anchor point in the boot's floor, so a 300mm anchorage extension strap was needed.

The seat came with its own anchorage, although I noticed SuperCheapAuto sell them for $15ish.
I brought a britax 300mm anchorage extension strap from BabyBunting, although SCA also sell them for a similar price ($25ish)

It took 2mins and a 13mm socket to install
