Just had a dig through the receipts - it was $670.

As a bit more information - they bypassed the radiator completely I'm assuming due to the fact that it's probably big enough by itself - and left the old radiator pipework in place. This way if i pop a hole in the cooler, i can just re-connect the old radiator pipework relatively quickly.

When i booked it in - i asked them to top up the fluid with genuine toyota fluid (and that I'd pay for the whole bottle of fluid and keep whatever was left as spare), but i forgot to mention it again when i dropped the car off and it was missed. Its no drama because they didn't charge me for it (got an itemised receipt). I only know because i had it in for a service a few weeks later at Toyota (car is under a lease .. for another month) and asked them to check / top up. They said they added some - but can't remember how much now - I remember it being less than i thought it would need.

Viz a viz #32 & 34, is there any chance you could post the part number of the aforementioned transmission cooler from the receipt and the possible brand. Not knowing much about mechanics, it certainly looks the part and I like how they have left all the old pipework in place, so like you say if it does go kaput you can easily reconnect. A lot of butchers out there who just rip??!! It's a mod I seriously think about when I buy a van..but currently don't tow!!

        Thankyou 4 the pics.

Macaroon - no brand or part number on the receipt - only the uni cost of $230 + hoses clamps. most of the labour was modifying brackets to make it fit. Having a closer look - it's *not quite* the width of the radiator. Gave them a call to see what it would have been and they said it would have been a drivetech: website

Measured it up for you and it was about 570w x 160H x 20D so have a look and see if you can match the sizing ?

Let me know if you want some more detailed / better photos - happy to grab them.

Johhny D: So they spaced the electric fan away from the radiator to get the cooler to fit and the cooler sits below the top of the bumper/bar. Do you still run the plastic air scoops in the grill? My cooler sits up higher behind the horns, is mounted in-line after the radiator and I have also removed the left side plastic air scoop as I have a bonnet scoop. I was just wondering about air flow that's all.

Yep - and in terms of airflow. I have the TJM T13 bull bar - it has two air inlets either side of hte number plate you can see it in my buildup thread http://www.pradopoint.com/showthread...l=1#post426616 - and these line up to the bottom corners of the cooler. So i'd say maybe 15 - 20% of the cooler surface area would be in direct flow of air - but there'd definitly be a big high pressure area in front of it.

I figure due to the ridiculously large size of the cooler - even if only 10% is in direct flow of air - that probably equates to a smaller sized cooler anyway - and i still have all the other space for heatsink / exchange anyway.

probably not perfect - but - everything's a compromise without unlimited budget I guess.

It's a 30,000 BTU cooler - they suggested this size, which I thought might have been overkill but it still came in cheaper with fitting than what Toyota quoted so I figured I'd go for it so I'd finally have something that was big ... and ... functional ... wait ..

It goes pretty much right across the entire radiator mounts and about a 1/3 - 1/2 of it fits in behind the fan which is perfect. Driving around town the scangauge shows tranny temps anywhere from 70 - mid 80's. Haven't seen it go higher than that since it's been on. I'll be heading to Loveday 4WD park in the next week or two - so will be able to do a comparison. Last year on the dunes the transmission temps got up to 120 (40 degree day and no cooler fitted) before i noticed and stopped for a break - so i'll see what it gets to this year as a direct comparison.

Interesting that A/T temps got so high would have thought over boiling point would damage the A/T, can anyone confirm low, medium and high A/T temps?

I know this is a thread about the 120 but same engine and gearbox as 150. The transmission isn't like an engine where you need to get to a certain operating temp, so I just fitted the biggest cooler that would fit. (Also got rid of the pathetic standard horns while I had the grill off).

Toyota told me to mount it in series with the existing 'cooler' to avoid warranty issues. The existing cooler actually also works as a heater when it gets seriously cold which is not a problem in WA.

Off topic but could someone tell me how you put photos directly into the post, rather than attachments.

I use photobucket. You choose your photo and then click on the image url - you get 4 choices in the menu box to right of screen and select the bottom one. When you click on the link it says "copied", you then go into your post on PP and simply paste in the link. This will give you a full picture. You can usually put four or so images in per post.

Made a bracket from 20 x 3 for the cooler.

Bent the horn tabs to fit around cooler. Just makes it behind the intercooler ducts. Also turned the horns 90 deg so the electric plug wires didn't pull tight.

All I need is a 10 mm joiner for the oil line and we are away.

Used two 6mm bolts in the bottom and the 8mm horn bolt. The bottom are existing on the chassis.

Made a new bracket for the aircon pipe as well.

Edit: fitted the joiner, all good so far. Did the teat drive and couldn't get the main box to 80 but the torque rose to 85 under heavy load, one foot on the brake, second gear going uphill.
Without cooler this would have been 15 deg hotter.

Cooler really is doing the trick. Highway temp is 65 with cooler, 80 without. Should have done this a long time ago.

Rusty which way did you run the lines, incoming to the top or bottom?

I ran mine incoming to the top then changed it to the bottom after thinking the ATF would flow back down into the transmission rather than stay in the cooler. It also helps the fluid stay in the cooler longer which I assume would help to lower temps.
