I agree that bosses should not be able to sack on a whim but Gees! surely the other staff should be able to vote them out.

I was once referred to as a "McGuyver" in the outback. I got things done, achieved results, never failed a mission. I was a "go-to-guy" and got sent in to sort other people's shite out. The bosses used my successes to feather their own nests and climb the corporate ladder. Now, I am just another number. I have no love for them any more. Roll on retirement.

Never sacked a guy on a whim or dislike , always have spoken to the persons co workers beforehand about it to get the feel of what is happening, in this case i have busted my arse previously to not have him sacked due to his potential , young bloke knows everything , once it clicks he will be an asset.
today he pulled a sickie so i am in a conundrum

"Young Blokes" have always been a problem, had a few good ones turn feral when they started drinking/drugging after they turned 18. Frustrating when experience tells you this bloke can be good but he is too busy having fun.

I used to sit them down have a face to face with them, telling them you were on the right track but now you aren't, what can we do about it.

Some calmed down and found a balance, others just goofed off and eventually got sacked.

Know exactly how you feel. Story of my life. There are those who knuckle down, bend over backwards to get the job done, and then there are those who pick your brain and use 'their knowledge' to climb over you to get to the top. But their lack of any real ability eventually sees them tumble. I had one guy who was promoted over me and wanted to know why production had stopped. I told him it might have something to do with the annual maintenance shutdown and all the machines were stripped down and in pieces.

Besides a major international roof rack manufacturer blatantly ripping off my design on a 4wd accessory with identical pricing to push me out of the market, There's also another product manufacturer who is using my products name as a product tag on his own website to attract more searches.

Yes I have no patent or the like on my single product as I am like a few blokes on this site who is passionate about 4wding and wanted to help out fellow 4wders by giving a little back and provide an affordable product.

I had this long winded explanation typed up... but then I realised, wtf, nobody would understand me. And those that would, they probably wouldn't care... so here's a condensed version:

It's a geek gripe:
I'm a database developer... with a personality (it's a bonus, trust me!). In a few sentences: our network at work has been playing up, I can't do anything useful on this network at the moment - even browsing the net is terrible - but if I save files to the local computer, all is good. This is a big no-no in real terms (backup/preservation/etc). Last night, I was back at work, and I ran out of disk space on the network share... 2mb left out of a lot of terabytes. In an enterprise environment.

The issue isn't the space, it's a "wtf are these IT clowns doing?" issue (I say this with 15yrs experience from the lowest to my now high).

*sigh*

I never thought I'd really think this way, being where I came from in the IT scale ... but you hire monkeys, you get peanuts (isn't that how it goes?)... it's not rocket surgery (isn't that how it goes?)...

Then I came into work today, and my mother####ing bins are gone!@#!$#@@#$!@@!!!! replaced with communal recycle/trash bins... I've thrown so many things today into my "bin that was" :-(
