I kind of agree. Most people are doing it for a few likes on Facebook, or a few more followers on Twitter (especially the celebs). The original challenge is to donate $100 to ALS charity OR douse yourself in a bucket of ice water. So all these people are admitting they'd rather NOT donate to charity

Isn't there a stipulation that if you don't do it within 24hrs of being nominated you have to donate anyway? At least one of the ones I've seen on Facebook mentioned it.

I did this challenge 4 weeks ago on a nice wet winters day before I had heard of any celebrities doing it. My challenge was donate $100.00 to a charity of my choice if I don't complete the challenge in 72 hours or do the challenge and still donate but only $10.00 to a charity of my choice.
I haven't bothered watching the celebrity challenges but the one I did you had to place your feet in a tub of ice and water, recite how you were nominated, nominate up to four others, identify your chosen charity then have two buckets of ice and water poured over you then the tub your feet were in. The hardest part was trying to keep your concentration with your feet in the tub of ice and water.

What ticks me off is there are way too many charities. Seems like anybody can dream up an excuse to start a charity for anyone or anything at anytime. Everyday there is a different mob rattling tins and collecting donations at the entrance to the local shops. But they're also getting more aggressive with their demands. Now they want your credit card details just so "you don't have to worry about digging into your pocket to find a few coins. Now you can relax as we do all the hard work by sucking your bank account to death on a monthly basis." I just say "no thanks" now.

Yeah we had the guide dogs in the local shopping centre a while ago, I like to support the guide dogs so went over with the intention of throwing them a 20. Oh no they didn't want my money straight away, rather they asked a whole heap of carefully designed leading questions that led to the conclusion That I could easily afford $5 a day. Then they wanted, my name, address, birthdate, email and my bank account details so they could arrange the direct debit not only didn't they get any of that, they dipped out on the 20 as well.

Reminds me of a mate of mine was working temporarily in Perth and billeted in a sleazy motel on GE Hwy Rivervale. A prostitute was doing the rounds and knocked on his door late one night. She said "I'll have sex for a hundred dollars" to which my mate replied "Well, normally I wouldn't but I could use the money, please come in."

Going for a walk at lunch time in the city has become a nightmare. There's some kind of charity/petitioner every 200m. I normally politely tell the ones that stop me in the street that they haven't got a chance in hell of getting me to do anything because they stopped me. I only regularly donate to 3 charities that are close to me and I do it in my own way, in my own time.
