  • How to Remove a Hiclone

Is removing a Hiclone a DIY for dummies? The previous owner fitted one and i would like to remove it in an attempt to locate the reason for an increase in fuel consumption, http://www.pradopoint.com/viewtopic.php?t=3196

Where has it been installed ... got any pics ???

From the snippets I've read on the web they are usually just slid into place in the path of the airflow. Has this one been fixed into place ??

    Cheers

they can sit in a couple of places.. id take off the air filter and look under it. i think that is the most common place.

as for fuel consumption.. run some injector cleaner thru it. and fill it up with bp ultimate after that.

My Brother-In-Law got 2 for his V6. Both located in the recommended postions.
1 inside the flexible rubber btween the air fliter box and the solid plastic pipe from the guard
2nd is directly before the airflow meter after the air filter box. Bit more to get this one out but just need a few sockets and the rest is your hands.
We used injector cleaner after the 1st tank full went through, as it says it'll use more if they're dirty on needs a tune up.
The 2nd near the Air flow needs to have the open split inline with the tubing running back into the Airflow meter, otherwise if it's moved this could explain the increased consumption. We poped them in about 6mths ago, not sure that he's seen huge savings for the $$ spent on them.

Chippy, i haven't seen the hiclone, the previous owner mentioned he had put one in. Gotta find it before i can remove it.

Matt, I took a quick look; its not just in behind the air filter so I'll take more of a look in the the morning.

Mersenne, you mention an "Airflow Meter", do you reckon you could give me idea on how to identify this item? The Toyota service department suggested it might need a clean.

          Regards

            OK ... my bad. ops:

Two possible spots to look. One would be in the rubber pipe leading to the filter. The other would be in that short section of airbox between the filter and the air flow meter. If you pop the big cover off you should be able to see the 3 or 4 bolts that need to be undone to get the box off. Once its off you should be able to get a clear look into the other end and see if the little sucker is hiding up there.

            Good luck.

            Cheers

Mystery solved; there's the little sucker :!: Looking oh so shiny and, i would think, inoccuous.

And mersenne, i checked and the split was lined up correctly with the tubing.

              Thanks for the help guys.
