    • So this isn't a new mod by any means, but I did the rear door table on the weekend. I had marine carpet leftover from when I built the camper trailer. I decided to use melamine instead of ply, this way I can wipe it clean and dont need to put vinyl or anything over ply. Also melamine is cheaper then ply so it was sort of win win. I know ply is better with water but I dont expect a mass amount of water on it anyway. Thanks to everyone on the DIY thread, thats where I got the idea from. I bought the strapping from BCF and also the shock cord pieces to keep it shut, they were actually evakool brand in a packet for about $10 I think for memory.

      • I've always wondered about the value of using carpet on these as most people will be using them for some form of food prep. I have to come clean and admit I've never got around to fitting one of these tables. (I have installed a LED light in the door though) and the table is on the bucket list.

I'd always thought of getting some rubber matting or similar from Clark rubber and clipping it to the table with some bulldog clips. That way it's gripy enough that stuff won't slide off if you aren't parked on a level surface and can be removed to be cleaned.

Downside is it could get pretty warm if left in the sun.

        • I agree with you. If I had my time again I'd put something easy to clean on the top.
I've seen some on other cars where the whole table is made from a sheet of ally. Nice and light and easy to clean

          • Yeah i figured it would be easier having a cleanable surface, you could always lay something over the carpet blakmoth

            • Inspired by the many tables I'd seen, I decided to do mine today. Similar to others, I used marine ply but stained it instead of using carpet, will be easier to clean.

I'll seal it tomorrow and also remove those packing blocks, put nuts on the bottom screws and christen it.

              Beer o'clock now !!

I put carpet on the underside so that it would blend in when folded up and I got a composite board from Bunnings (nylon centre, aluminium on both sides) to put on the top so it could be wiped down easily. 12mm ply for the centre and then wrapped the edges with rubber strap from Clark Rubber. Couldn't get the exact width I wanted so after it was glued on I cut it to size with a sharp knife.
Removed the plastic from the door and all of the screws were run into bits of wood to give it a bit more strength, also the screws for the support straps were run into the steel of the door itself.

Bit of a combination of everybody elses ideas really. Thanks heaps guys!

I know it's an old thread but couldn't help saying thanks.
Very nice job mate. What is that panel you used usually used for, how much and what is the thickness. I'd love to get some.

                  • Hey Mozz, Don't know what the composite board is normally used for. Found it in the timber section in Bunnings and I think it was about $30 for the sheet (about 900x1200).

                        • 150 rear table - stainless

Just finished mine. Similar principle, but slightly different approach.

I used folded stainless steel to give me an easy to clean surface. I folded up the edges for strength and to stop stuff rolling off the table. I made up some brackets to hold the hinge pins and para cord. The para cord allows me to adjust the length easily to compensate for any angle depending where I park.

GXL 150's have the raised floor so the table was a bit narrower. I don't mind having a narrower table. Still plenty wide to put a portable stove on. Couple of bungee straps to keep it closed.
