  • Decked out to tour

After many weekends spent in the shed conducting R&D and then a lot of fabrication I got together with my brother inlaw (a 120 owner also) at the weekend and we installed a number of our projects we have been working on for our Cape trip next month.
    Got to start some were

The start of the back seat storage deck

    Finished frame

    Frame installed

    Trim to be added

Another install was the mandatory PP checker plate under the radiator

The old bash plate has had a hard life

The last job was to install the Glind shower witch was placed inside the Toyota Bullbar

    Water pump placement

I still have room left to mount my compresser next to the water pump and this should be done this coming weekend. The main thing I like about all these add ons is that I have not had to drill one hole in the car to do it

Heading to the Cape early  Be great to read the trip report regarding condition of the road and water levels etc.

Look forward to the next instalment.

Awesome work Quicky! I wish I was that organised!

What dates are you heading up the cape? We're leaving Cairns on the 8th of June for 2 weeks. We may end up crossing paths... Will have to keep an eye out for PP stickers!

I've also heard that the road up is in really good nick at the moment so it's going to be a smooth trip.

          Cheers,

                QUICKY,

Great job on the storage deck, it has given me some ideas.
You may want to drill a few holes in the alloy bash plate, otherwise it will bend if you hit some deep water.

                  Hi Leachy,
I thought the same so I checked the other day on a couple of creek crossings up bloomfield way and no problems, but then again I did not hit them at speed. An Interesting comment though if one was to hit a patch of Aqua at speed and deep enough to slam the Al. bash plate.

The comments re holes in the bash plate to prevent bending during high speed water collisions need more thought. I accept that someone bent theirs when entering water at speed and that having holes this would be lessened. How much this would be the case? How many holes would make any difference without weakening the structure? What would be the resulting pressure aim towards the radiator, the subject of the bash plate protection? Having a really large hole would mean there wouldn't be any bending at all but..... I would take the De Bono approach and enter the water more slowly..... no bending! Ahhhhhhh. No stress.
