  • Water intercooler installed

    Fitting:

    Pipe fitting:

The intake pipe "welded" by Techno-Weld (www.techno-weld.com) Not nice, but itīs tight:

Intake with homemade gas pedal cable holder:

The radiator, the water pump and the swirl tank:

    The swirl tank:

    Here it is, all installed:

The front view, I managed to get the radiator very close to the bumper hole:

    Parts needed:

    -Air-to-Water intercooler, core size: 10"x4.5"x4.5"
    -Radiator (Fiat Cinquecento)
    -Water-circulalation pump (Bosch 0 392 020 064, 1200 liter/hour)
-Swirl tank 0,75 liter (homemade of aluminium drinking bottle)
    -Expansion tank (VW Golf)
    -76 mm/63 mm aluminium pipes
    -76 mm to 51 mm 45° Silicone Reducer + 3" 90° bend
    -19 mm hoses
    -Clamps
    -Brass fittings
    -Wires+relay+switch

It works very well, it feels more powerful and the torque is better too. 8)

This model is manufactured without intercooler, like all Toyotas with 1KZ-T(E) in Europe.
And those who think there is no space under the hood for this kind of device, I have 2" bodylift. It makes this project possible.

This is the power curve of this setup:

I also add a fan (10") for the intercooler radiator.

There was a lot of heat under the hood at slow speeds (in traffic hour) and at high speed too (120 km/h). My bull bar is blocking quite a lot the radiator hole in the front bumper.

I made this temperature controlled (it starts at +40C and shut down under +30C).

            Thanks.

            82hp @ wheels = around 62 kw

Here's a dyno chart for 1kz-te (Australian market) with factory intercooler:

            57kw @ wheels = around 76hp

You've done 5kw better than Toyota factory engineering. Good result for just an intercooler modification and of course this gives you a good base for further modifications.

1kz-te with early UniChip (Now called Dtronic) ecu upgrade:

(shown against standard vehicle read out)

            67kw peak @ the wheels.

OT: Where did you get the Van Aaken box? I've tried to find one but they seem to be out of business.
