How many km's were on your your Prado when you had injectors replaced?

I have a Sep-08 D4D with 135,000kms - serviced every 10k and oil changed almost every 5k since I have owned post 80,000km. Original owner used as a town car (knew them personally) but was a bit hit & miss with servie intervals with a couple of services intervals stretching to around 15k-20k instead of 10k. Prado has been serviced at same reputable mechanic (non-Toyota) as I also have same mechanic is first owner, hence having greater confidence to purchase second hand.

Prado is running well with no diesel rattle or smoke. Has not missed a beat in the past 55,000km that I have added to the clock. I do also run a Steinbauher Chip and 3inch redback exhaust.

But should I proactively get the injectors replaced at 135,000km's??

    Welcome advice.

The jury advises that they should be changed out at @ 120K. First thing to do would be to get the injector feedback values done and see where yours are at. This will give you an idea of a time line to get the work done. My engine was rebuilt at 73K after 2 injectors failed. At 118K I replaced all four injectors when the remaining 2 original ones were creeping towards the feedback limits.

Bushbasher, thanks for the advice. I will get things further checked out with my mechanic.

            Yes you should change them.
They are 7 years old. That's a long time.
If you get the job done right there is good drivability improvements.
As well as the best prevention of a holed piston. Get into it early. Don't be statistic.

            • I recently brought a 07 d4d and it has a nasty early morning rattle but I use the idle up button on the right hand side below the steering wheel and let it idle for about 3 mins and bam no rattle

              • Ignoring or masking the issue won't make it better. Get feedback values checked and go from there. Was yours part of the recall for injector sheets? Ask a dealer to run the VIN. Replacing injectors will cost you around $3k if you don't have some sort of warranty from the purchase whereas a new engine something north of $10k. Your call.

                  'bam' being the operative word...

                  As above, get it checked-out.

Good information. Wasn't sure where they were at.

Mine never rattled - ever. Then one day it went BANG.

                        • Good to see active discussion on this . Shame that all 1kd owners aren't part of this forum

Genuine injector kits are still available to PP members from NZ
TNZ aren't actively promoting the kits , however due to the volume I've now sent
Decent kit pricing is still available

PM me with your vin # for details

                          • I will also add to Dave's post, my Dec 07 120 had no symptoms. And two injectors out of specification. Only discovered because I insisted on getting feedback values just before extended warranty expired. Not worth the risk. Honestly get it checked out.

So if injectors are now classed as consumable items that should be replaced at 120k intervals, does that mean they wouldn't be covered under warranty past 120k under an extended warranty?

                              • If they are out of spec they should be covered. Mine were covered under the Toyota extracare warranty. Initially they were only replacing the two that were out of spec but as mine had a previous model injector they finally agreed to replace all four. A bit of noise on my part. However overall I cannot complain about the service just a frustrating week leading up to the changeout.
