  • When ordered replacement injectors from Rick I noticed that the nozzle on the end of the new injectors was dark grey/black in colour. The old injectors that came out had a steel coloured nozzle. The part number for the old and new were the same.

Anyone know the reason for the difference in colour? Would the dealer have changed the nozzles out when doing the valve clearance and seat replacement as part of a service? I find it odd that the part number didn't change if different parts were used in earlier injectors.

        Why turbo?
Yep injectors, as we discussed on SMS/PM...

#1 Cylinder damaged as well, possible metal run through the turbo.

Strip what I can, taking the money and running.

          I'd have to say,
if injector feedbacks were checked every service as is required,
and then, if I copped it, or copped it twice, I'd do the same.

A couple of details I don't remember are who was doing the diagnostic?
          What was the last readings?
How many Klm's afterwards did she go?
That info Could come in handy for me.

What stumps me is all the ones I service & replace injectors on etc, none of them pop their cherry.

          • ####, it's got me thinking too. I asked a friend of mine who works at a major novated leasing company in Sydney and they deal with all the servicing related costs. Of all the many Prados, Hiluxes and Hiaces on their books, not a single case of the D4D detonation. Having said that, most would change over their vehicles every 3-5 years but you'd expect many to be well over 60,000 kms by this stage. Perhaps there's a lower proportion of people also who tow heavy vans and probably almost nobody who adds chips, exhaust upgrades, etc.

From what I can tell its the vehicles with towing, chips & other similar mods that pop.
Lots of standard vehicles that keep going.
I always say before you do a mod, do you really need it?

If that has do be done EVERY service, then there is something really, really wrong. Sure, every 20K - I could almost see.

Well, got the readings done in October, and were OK at that time. How many KM's, geeze at a guess, 20-25k KM's. It was starting to rattle, and if not on flatbed to mechanics - would have been booked in that week!!

Burnie Fuel Injection Service - is where the final analysis took place. Heard nothing from where I got them from.

Yeah, well - 2nd time major issues with motor. I've already lined up a couple of '03 GXL petrols to look at...

The vehicle needs to be serviced every 10,000k, there is nothing wrong with plugging in & testing while at service, it doesn't take long.
It needs to be done as much as anything else on a service.
It really does need to be done, IF peeps want prevention.
20-25k yeah bit long, if it rattles it needs to be checked right away.
The injectors should have lasted a lot longer than that.
Ahhh well better luck with the petrol hey!

                    Hi mate,

From reviews I have read, on here and others, seems to work... but for me being new time will tell. I cannot afford 4K replacement injectors no way, so if this works, will be happy. Need to get some one to do a How to on cleaning that EGR that I have seen on here. I think I may have a build up haha.... 135K and Sherman tank when cold.

I'd like to see before and after injector readings after using an additive like this.

                      • Hey
Many people with KDJ150 Prado D4D experiencing injector problems? Or seeing as they have the diamond tip injectors compared to older KDJ120 D4D engines are they ok and dont require replacing so often?
Interested to hear if many people with 150 series prado's have swapped inhjectors over and if so how early ie how many kms had engine done when they needed to be swapped.
I did try a search on here before i posted but only really coming across 120 series comments.
Hopefully hear back from some people, this is a great forum!

Ok so 2007, 135k, Sherman tank when cold, that's Sounds a recipe for damage
That additive MAY help the injector longevity if it was used all its life, but nothing makes up for mechanical wear in the injectors.
You can get the Injectors & egr clean done for around 3k. Maybe you Can't afford not to? What's the fuel volume & feedbacks like?

The later vehicles generally, injectors are staying good for longer.
But there is many cases of blown pistons. As low as 35 & 55k but average more around 100 to 150k.
So many people are changing them out around 100 & 120k. Cheap insurance & nice improvements.
A diagnostic must be done every 10,000k, if they look ok, you can leave them, but many peeps are pretty fussy & rightly so, they want reliability & not to have to spend 5 figures on an engine. So changing them is cheap insurance.

Only sounds bad when cold, when shes up to operating temp, smooth as a babies bum. Fuel volumes and feedbacks ? sorry, bit of a noob on that question. Can the EGR clean be done by myself ? I am mechanically confident but not tech savy. If I can save 3K I would tackle it myself, just need the how to hahah....
