  • The insurance company was not going to come to the party on four injectors when 2 are well within spec. According to service manager, you can get new replacement injectors for the 120 series and this is what they have done. He said they are all within .1 of specification whereas the 2 that failed were at 5. Also, as my water pump was not leaking the insurance company would not replace it. The engine sounds pretty sweet and I can feel an urge there that was lacking before. I have to do a 1000km in the next couple of weeks then return to Toyota for a check up and oil change. A customer has just come in with a Hilux D4D with the same engine failure as mine. The insurer wants the fuel analysed for excess water.

    • Gday Bushbasher

I am sorry to here about how your engine has basically been compromised in the name of profit!

Would it also be safe to say that Toyota also did not replace all 5 x injector fuel lines as they have recommended to do in the past?

Quote Bushbasher: A customer has just come in with a Hilux D4D with the same engine failure as mine. The insurer wants the fuel analysed for excess water.

Answer skywalkerrun: I would also advise the guy with his hilux to also get his own independent "analyses for excess water" to rule out passing-on of the hot potato of blame (There get out of dishonor warranty/insurance card) then question why didn't Toyota's water safety light on the fuel filter didn't trap or pick-up water in the system as it is supposed too!

"Also".... Are you also aware that "all" Toyota workmanship / parts and labour are honoured under 12 month warranty!...

We are now coming into warmer weather but if those two injectors that have "not" (Under Toyota's discretion) been changed get noisey (Out of spec) within 12 x month they will have to honour there workmanship based on there discretion of not replacing all 4 x injectors as a complete set!..... Insurance company's pay the bills, Toyota advise on parts to replace on there discretion..... Who is accountable for that discretion to only replace 2 x injectors??

      Cheers

PS I looked at every part number on the 08 D4D engine for "38610" and the only part number i could find close to that number was a Denso flasher relay and the post code for Riuttala, Finland is 38610 http://zip-code.geographic-data.net/...3-38610.html?? Lol

      • Hopefully if the original injectors decide to detonate i won't be 1200kms from home stuck out in the bush like last time. The 38610 number is apparently the cost code description for the work done and not a part number. The injectors don't even feature on the work sheet. The fuel pipes, gaskets, seals, nozzles, etc are all on the sheet.

        • Interesting that both the mechanic and service manager recommended to me to fit an aftermarket fuel filter upstream of the main filter. They know something is wrong.

            • just thought i would let you all know that this issue is now so widely known that people are starting to use it as a selling point for workshop tools. I spoke to a diesel mechanic in cessnock today and he said that he had someone call him this morning and try and sell him the tools to do the injector diagnostics and replace. Said he was mad not to be in the market for this work because it was huge business.

              • $1225.70 for a new injector from Toyota or the same thing from a Denso dealer for @$550 each. How do they get away with it.

                • I opened one up a week or so ago, and it also contained a branded zip lock plastic bag. Besides the injector, the bag also contained a small piece of white tissue paper.?????

Oh yeah, for wiping away those tears when you experience having the heart ripped out of your baby and wondering who is going to pay for all of this.

                      • Would someone who has changed the injectors, be able to supply a Denso part number, and a good supplier in Brisbane. Not a Toyota dealership of course.

                        I have a 2007 D4D.

                        Thanks in advance. Stephen

                          • Put car in for 1000km service today. Toyota wish to advise me that there is no need for injectors to be replaced if they are within range, hence the reason why they only changed the 2 faulty ones during the engine rebuild. They will check the ranges again today and see why it's running thirsty.

                            • Bad news. Dropped car in today for 1000km check up. Car is back in the naughty corner at Toyota. All the top of the motor is open and the mechanics are feverishly trying to find out what is wrong. So much for a quick oil and filter change. The saga continues.

I personally only ordered as follows below For when i will be changing just the washers/seals in the future as i already replaced the injectors a while back my self! @ Bushbasher. I hope all comes good for you and at least they will be paying for what needs to be corrected. (If was leaking fuel line your oil level would have been high).
