  • My Truck "Build Up"

Well its about time we saw a 90 series build up.

This is the prado as purchased back in August 2003
It came pre loved with the ARB winch bar, duel battery and snorkel
Only thing I added at this stage was the I-Com 400 pro UHF & the RFI ariel

    3 weeks old, First Mud

Bought the camper trailer in January 2005

Upgraded the tyres on the prado to Cooper ST's and put the old Bridgestone duelers on steel rims onto the camper

Installed the Lightforce 170's some time in 2004

    By September 2005 had fitted:
    Extreme UHF ariel
Hand held GPS with external ariel on snorkal
    Magnam winch
    Tough Dog 2" suspension lift
& modified the camper trailer to carry 2 spares on the draw bar

Added a couple of pradopoint stickers

tieded up the dash area a bit:
installed new Pioneer Sterio with Blue tooth car kit
New dash, old one was cracked and fo woodgrain was all I could find
    Uniden 27Mhz radio down bottom
Old nokia phone cradle to enable use of an external ariel

installed winch controls into the dash
switch on right with red light enables the winch controls & switch beside it works the winch in & out

    bought drawer unit off EBay

As the prado is no longer a daily driver and with work comitmants it can some times sit in the garage for a while I installed an anderson plug for easy connection of the battery charger.

latest project is a presureised water tank
fitted a tubless tyre valve and a length of hose to the cap of a 20L jerry and now have running water.

currently fitting a roof rack to carry the solar panel & charge the 3rd battery
    (photos to follow)

have now graduated to leading packs of 120's around

    New photos 28/4/08

    rhino bars roof rack installed

The new manually operated 3rd battery solenoid
the blue box is the automatic duel battery switch with both the 2nd & 3rd batterys hanging off it.

the small/cheap compressor mounted on the back of the cargo barrier to push the water out.

the airmax mounted and wired in between the fridge and the cargo barrrier with 10m of air hose.

6 outlets in the back, 3 off each aux battery, when the fridge runs the 2nd battery down I just plug it into the 3rd. Pluss push button for the water.

Battery monitour wired to the 2nd & 3rd batterys.

    Added 13/7/08

Built a table for the rear door

Took out the back seat and built a shelf

Blue lightforce covers to stop some of the glare

fitted some Micky Thomson Baja MTZ's

Some nice pics there Yota. Spotted a few known spots as well, Stockton (although that was an easy one), Wombeyan Caves Rd Lookout, the camping spot could be anywhere, but thinking Wombeyan Caves themselfs maybe some pics of the Wattagans. Blue Mountains NP on the way to Dingo Dell or Limeburners. Am I right?
97 Vitara 1.6 JX Day Tripper(550klms range), 98 Prado V6 LPG GXL for Touring (1400klms range), Offroad Cub Camper for Overnight.

Not bad for a guy who lives in Alice eh, OK I lied. Grew up in The Gong lived in Newy for a while and worked a fair bit in Nowra so I should have got the one at Jervis, although most of the pics were of Sydney and Newy area so I gave that one a guess. That gives me an idea, "Spot the location?" It might take off.

the reason for you leading the 120's, is we don't want too much damage to our cars.
and it's always funnier when someone else gets stuck. so yer, send in a 90 series.
but i must say, the 90's do alright offroad.
we'll see what happens when we do the next watagans run.
it's looking to be a beauty.
most of the tracks are now sorted, just sorting out the arvo leg.
so hope to see you and some other 90's out for that one.
probably 2-3 weeks away from setting the date.

Would have thought your pressurized system would have been in a round stainless steel cylinder form.
you know, I didnt even think of that.
Ill have to get one of the boys at work to condem a couple of nice new extinguishers.
Plastic is easyer to work with though

Awesome write up and build up of your 90. One of the pics shows some awesome flex out of the suspension!

But my favourite is you pic above.

It's good to see that a 90 can lead a pride of Prado's.

Nice to see the evolution Glenn. Gives me ideas for mine.

                        1. Where is your aux fuel gauge? You have an anologue clock where mine is.

                        2. Retractable electric mirrors? thats abit fancy pants eh?

                          1. you can see the aux fuel gauge in the photo of the winch controls, it has 6 LED's and an on/off switch. I have an after market sub tank as I dont think the Jap modle had one, it just pumps the fuel from the sub tank to the main tank.

                          2. It stops them being riped off on narrow tracks.

any time you want a look or a hand with yours swing by, plenty of beer in the fridge.

have had a very busy weekend on the truck,
                              got the 3rd battery working
It charges in parralell with the 2nd battery, and is connected through a solenoid controlled from a dash switch. And found a neat little battery monitor at batteryworld that monitors the 2nd & 3rd batterys.

Got the roof rack on but still unsure how to mount the solar panel. The eye bolts holding the roof rack down are about 3mm off the garage door, so will have to rethink the tyre upsize.

the running water works a treat,
I have 1x20L & 1x10L jery can beside the draws on the passenger side. and a small compressor from super cheap wired through a push button pushes the water out.

Ill try & post some more pic tomorow.
