  • Platinum Gear "drop" slide (Fridge slide)

    Hey guys,

I've been on the lookout for a fridge slide that actually drops down. There's one usually advertised in the back of 4wd monthly called the Platinum gear drop slide.

It actually drops the fridge anywhere up to 300mm from it's normal height so it's particularly handy for mounting on the top of drawer systems, which I plan to do with a 60L Waeco. You could even bolt it to the floor and have it drop down 300mm from floor height.

I spoke to John from PG today and he has the first shipment coming in on the 7th of April ready for delivery. As it's a new product there's not too much info on it but there was a review of it in 4wd Monthly, issue 114 pg133-144. Website--> http://www.platinumgear.com.au

If you order before next monday you can get them for $449 + postage, after that they go up to $549. I asked about a group buy and he said he could work something out discount wise.

So if there's anyone interested let me know and I'll try to stitch up a deal. I know it's hard when it's a new product to see what it's like but if anyone has the 4wd monthly issue there should be a decent review of it in there. I haven't read it myself, trying to get my hands on it.

    Cheers,

    Crammy

Crammy another option is to get the storage system with the fridge mounted on the bottom....

          Hey Stan,

I have thought about that option and could be on the cards too. At this stage I'm thinking it would be good to have 2 drawers, and really side by side will be the most practical for us as sometimes the fridge may get taken out.

Even if we do go with it on the floor this particular slide would still work great with the 60L as it sits so high. If you did it this way it would come out past the bumper and drop around 300mm from the floor height.

          Cheers,

platinum gear the drop slide 200kg rated. www.platinumgear.com.au (07)38076599
just got back from the sydney supershow, and this guy was down there with these drawer systems.
had a good look and chat to him (forgot his name, spoke to so many).
the functionality of these systems are awesome. the misses was right in there having a look and a go.
they look good, but like everything, there are plenty of areas that could be look better.
being this is the first product like this (i think) he has done an excellent job.
things that could be improved, the look of some welds, and the handle could be
made out of some nice polished alloy. but in saying that. it works a treat.
simple to use and simple design.
he said the current model fits up to 60lt waeco (but not 60lt engel must be a bit bigger).
he is currently doing a system that will take up to the 80lt waeco,
but the big problem is the lifting mechanism/leverage/gas assisted area to
cope with the vastly different weights of a empty to full 80lt.
the hard thing being to make it easy to lift full 80lt but still be easy to control lifting mechanism when empty. (hard to write but easy to explain).
the misses didn't need much selling on the system after having a go.
so now i need to finish all of the large wiring system in the rear, then build
the drawer system (easy for me, thats the industry im in now), then the platinum fridge system.
simple system and it comes fully assembled. just need to mount handle holder (when fridge is in and door(s) is closed. it folds up against fridge)
so just position correctly and screw/bolt.
he was selling them at the show $449 but normally $549.
i think these prices are correct. i know he said it's $100 cheaper at the show.
the brochure he gave is his show brochure and it says $449.

              Hey Crammy,
I will probably hold off on this for the time being as we probably won't be having to access the fridge in the car as often when we go camping as we have a 75l fridge in the camper.

              Cheers,
              Kevin

it is as light as to lift back up. easy.
it's all in the leverage of his system.
he said it took him ages to get it right.
he had a 60lt waeco on it full of drinks, cans etc, and the misses
had no probs in moving it in or out, or up and down.
as for the way it works. i'm not sure on the finer details, and i just
checked out his website (poor quanity pics, bad thats his misses 5ft).
firstly have a look at the pics on the website and refer to them as i try to explain.
pull out the fridge on the slides, using the handle that is clipped to the front of the fridge.
the handle drops down to the horizontal position.
once it is right the way out, it stops travelling, and then ease the handle up,
and it lowers the fridge. the handle will then be over the top of the fridge lid.
fold the handle forward and open fridge lid.
it works alot easier than my terrible explaination.
                  to raise the fridge.
close the fridge lid. grab the handle behind the fridge and pull towards
yourself and the fridge raises up to the runners. at this point the handle
is horizontal and just push in. then just pivot/tilt the handle back into
the clips that you would need to mount on the fridge.
to lock the fridge runner from moving, have a close look at picture #1
on his site and you'll see a small turn t-handle that he uses to drive pins
out and into the side of each runner. very simple and easy to use.
i think even a kid to lower a fully stocked 60lt. it's just that easy.
oh and it has gas struts that help lower the fridge or take some of the weight.
if i had of thought about it at the time, i should have used the phone and videoed it.
maybe someone else will be going and can do it, post it.

I think I'll order mine tomorrow as the price goes up to $549 after the 31/3.

If there's anyone else keen let me know as I have spoken to John from platinum and he'll be happy to discount if we get a few numbers interested. Price is $449 + postage. Postage for me was $50 to Cairns. The slide is fairly heavy, from memory pretty sure he said it was around the 33kg mark.

Mine's been on order since December and I've been listening to the same old BS since then - next week... next week...

Was finally told today that it should be within the next few weeks. Bloody hell!

A mate of mine is in the exact same position. He got one for his 40lt Engel that sits in the back of his 80 Series. He ordered his same time as you and has been getting the same lines as well. My mate has already paid for his too (despite telling the bloke not to charge him until it's on it's way down).

I keep joking him that my Prado got delivered quicker than his fridge slide did.

The bloke has been telling my mate that they're in quarantine and have been for the last two months. It was then suggested that he not import heroin with the fridge slides next time....

Good Luck, I'll let you know when my mates is delivered.

                          Cheers,

I didn't go ahead with my order as I had read on other forums that they weren't being delivered and they were getting all sorts of excuses. When I spoke to the fella from Platinum re the order, they wanted the money up front. I later sent him an email telling him I would only order one if I could put down a deposit and I never heard back. He told me way back when I started this thread that there was a batch coming in that week. Seems that that was total BS as no one seems to have them yet.

Pretty piss poor if you ask me!
