    Hi,
You've sent letters re. the same issue or some other complaint to them?

Check some of wanna's earlier posts for what you ask. From what I have read they pretty much gave him the cold shoulder.

On every occasion they have referred the matter back to my local Toyota head office to deal with. However, I'm sure the repeated complaints have added weight to my dealings with Toyota Australia.

The more written complaints and demands for action that are sent to both Toyota Global and the Toyota head office of every country affected the better.

I have resolved my individual issue with Toyota to a FAR more favorable degree than almost every 'offer' recently described by others on this forum lately however legal constraints prevent me from discussing any details. My only advice, seek legal consult and demand what you deserve!

          Thank you.
          It's worth a try I guess.
Postage to Japan isn't gonna bankrupt me. Wish it was an email though.
Was reading something about Toyota corporate culture the other day as regards to the recent recalls.
Very secretive company...they messed up by closing ranks and avoiding the safety issues early, and it has cost them dearly in reputation and money now in the States.

I just took my Prado to have the dash replaced today. The lady behind the desk was quite rude and unfriendly. When I said this problem is world wide and is showing up in the years 03 to 06 she became rather defensive and gave me the standard line. "I have been working for Toyota for blah blah years and I have never seen this before!" It took all I had not to say anything. I will see if I can drag up some pictures for her.

Its just wrong that Toyota are ignoring this problem and downright disgusting if they are getting their staff to lie about it.

I wasn't going to take this further but the stench runs too deep. I will have already sought legal advise in this matter. With the evidence in hand it is clearly worth pursuing. (unless you don't mind paying the money when you don't have to)

People out there with this issue need to make a little effort and seek legal advice. Most of us including myself find the Prado to be one of the best 4x4's on the market. Accountability is all we ask, and a little customer care for those that support the Toyota brand. Which is, for the most part, a quality product.

Did anyone else see the article in the drive section of last fridays Sydney Daily Telegraph there was a article on cracked dashboards - i cant recall the exact details but anything over 7 years was to be dealt on a case to case basis and later models would be covered by warranty. From memory the model referenced was an 07 prado. The cracking is supposed to be cosmetic only and doesnt affect the car. Unfortunately the missus chucked the paper so im trying to find it on the site. Must of been the result of a pradopointer writing in. They dont call it Smithy's section anymore?

This was posted last week in The Age online.

                http://theage.drive.com.au/motor-new...113-19owj.html

Strange how almost all Toyota dealers have 'never heard of this before'!!!

"Toyota had been covering the problem under its normal three-year warranty program but the company is also covering affected cars up to five years from the delivery date"

Soooo... if your Prado was less than 5 years old when you first reported the problem this means it's covered, yeah? One assumes 'covered' means replaced at full cost to Toyota? Looking forward to hearing more about this.

I just acquired an 05 kzj120 and I do have the same problem.

I noticed in the service history a requested was made to have the dashboard install and the part was ordered in 07. I don't believe anything follow up action was ever taken. I will call or perhaps visit Toyota's service centre here in Trinidad and here what they have to say.
Update : The CSR at Toyota dealership here in Trinidad indicated that this was changed in June 2007. And that the vehicle is no longer under warranty therefore nothing can be done. Cost to repair approximately US$2000.

NB : This vehicle is almost 6 years old, has 55 000km and has spent most of its lifetime in a basement.

On the upside, I've heard of someone locally who repairs them so I might just look into that.

It may be only cosmetic, but in some states you may not pass roadworthy with cracks around the airbag area (as some members have stated).

Affects value a lot I'd say!

A very grey area - Initally Toyota told me the cracking made the vehicle unroadworthy and this was confirmed by RACQ. Dept of Transports response was it is only unroadworthy if affects the operation of the airbag. My question was how the hell do you know if its going to affect the airbag operation until the airbag deploys?? Later down the track Toyota came up with the ' only cosmetic' response. I still think its dangerous to have the cracking across the airbag area as anything could happen on deployment including bits of dash flying in all directions or the dash puncturing the airbag.
My only advise is to keep hounding Toyota. it took me nearly 12 months, but in the end I received a full refund of costs involved.

Just had a reply from Toyota that they'll pay 50% of dashboard only and I have to pay for labour and other 50%. In my eyes this is an admission from Toyota that there is a manufacturing fault in the dashboard and they are trying to get away with as least as possible. I'll now be writing to head office Japan and Australia and seeing how I get on.
12 months ago they basically said "tough s****" because it was out of warranty, I wonder why the change of mind?

I never had this offer from Toyota regarding the dashboard but it seems a std response as they said this with other failures such as the fuel tank 'gurgle'.

I did have a result with Toyota regarding the dashboard however for legal reasons I'm prohibited from discussing or disclosing details of the matter. The offers you've received seem WAY off the mark. I have heard of situations where TMCA have paid for the whole replacement (dash and fitting) as well as for the cost of the dash (owner paid fitting, < $300).

I can't stress enough... talk to a solicitor (initial consults are usually free) then take your demands to Toyota.

Further to the previous post, I'm sure if at least 10 of us got together and employed a solicitor the cost would be minimal. There's currently 2 of us that are happy to do this, any more takers?

This offer of 50% is a sure sign that Toyota are admitting blame and as we all know 'where there's blame there's a claim'
