  • the issue with ACA is unless it is something that has probably been catastrophic they wont be interested. The sad thing is it is going to take one of these air bags to go off and injure someone due to it not working correctly from the dash fragments for them or toyota to care. I hope I am wrong

    • I told Toyota if I'm ever in an accident and my dash is cracked over the airbag and it goes off and injures then eg get a shard in the eye I'm going to sue their arse

yeah I tried the same tactic. all they said was the cracks in the airbag do not detriment its purpose.....

        • Ok been to RMS here in Penrith (went to inspections) they only do trucks so couldn't answer me so gave me the RMS technical number 1300137302 so gave them a call, bad news. Cracks across the dash pad and/or airbag isn't a defect as its not impeding the airbag deployment having a dash mat does if it's not manufactured to suit passenger airbag. So there you have it. Nothing gained from that.

          • Yea was thinking of going to a 150 V6 Kakadu in May this year but have decided to go with patrol TiL Y62 in December. Mine will also be up for sale this year in June. At least my dash board isn't a worry. One tiny little crack next to vent which I'll get repaired before selling. Feel sorry for any of the guys (or girls) that have a dash that looks like a grenade's gone off, would devalue the 120 heaps I reckon.

Hope it stays that way, that's how mine started and within 2 weeks one right across the passenger side airbag air vent to air vent.

              • Yea mate so do I. Bloke that I'm going to use to touch it up says he won't guarantee his work on a Prado dash board cause he said he can fix it one day and crack again the next. He said shit material and gets a lot of phone calls about them but when he tells them he won't guarantee it they don't bother getting him cause they think he's ripping them off but I've known him for over 25 years still got the same Mitsi 300L van lol just older now lol. He will guarantee his work most of the time but due to the nature of the 120 Prado dashboards he won't cause he knows some one will ring him back saying he didn't do a proper repair or his work has caused it to crack an inch away from his repair so he said it's easier just not to do them. Still costing me over $100 just to get this one bit done but better then 2k when I'm selling it anyway. Unless you know about it or have read it on a forum most people wouldn't even know about it. My mate just sold his 05 VX with no cracks but the lady that bought it didn't even lift the dash mat up to check so could have been covered with cracks she wouldn't have known.. Cheers

My cracks all seem to be in the small areas not covered by the commercial matts. Has anyone else seen this?
I now have a crack running from the driver’s door across the front edge above the instrument panel and on over the centre panel. Also have a couple on the passenger’s side.
A quick trip to my local dealer and very pleasant young lady from the service department checked my VIN on their computer and it looks like mine is on the list. So now with photos of the cracks, Odometer and number plate sent to head office we wait.
Have you had any luck and what dealer did you go to. I have the same problem in mine. I have a 03 Grande

                        • Daniel, join the club, mine is an 03 as well. At this stage as you have no doubt read above 10 years cut off .

I had mine checked about 2 years ago and declined. It is very frustrating, such a nice vehicle spoiled by poor quality dash boards and pathetic Toyota customer service.

                          • Toyota really don't seem to understand the frustrations

"Thank you for your recent email received by the Toyota Guest Experience Centre on 06/05/2016 regarding the dashboard in your 2005 Toyota Prado. We would like to apologise for the delay in our response and appreciate your patience.

We understand the expectations that our customers have of their Toyota vehicle, as well as the National Dealership Network. We are therefore sorry to learn you are dissatisfied, and appreciate you bringing this matter to our attention.

We assure you that Toyota is committed to delivering a high quality product to our customers at all times, through many quality control measures. However, it is difficult for any manufacturer to comment on the life expectancy of components, which are subject to many variable influences over which Toyota have no control, i.e. environmental, operational conditions and servicing, fuel quality, age, kilometres travelled, normal wear and tear, etc. It is for this reason, that manufacturers offer new vehicle warranties on their workmanship and components to protect the consumer.

Toyota’s New Vehicle Warranty is provided for 3 years or 100,000kms (whichever occurs first) from the vehicle’s first date of registration. Within the Warranty period Toyota will repair or replace, at its discretion, any original equipment Toyota components found to be defective under normal use and operation in Australia.

The New Vehicle Warranty end date for your vehicle was 23/03/2008. We regret to advise that due to the fact your vehicle has now well exceeded warranty parameters, we are unable to provide financial assistance.

We can advise your vehicle is not included in the airbag recall.

Regarding your safety concerns, the best course of action for your situation involves a physical inspection of your vehicle. Toyota Motor Corporation Australia suggests you contact your local Toyota Service Centre to arrange a convenient time to take advantage of their expertise. The sooner the arrangements are made the sooner your vehicle will be diagnosed and repaired.

If you already have an existing relationship with another Toyota Dealer, you can find their contact details through our website. To access our Dealer Locator simply click on the following link, www.toyota.com.au/dealer.

Each vehicle and issue is investigated on a case by case basis. As such we cannot corroborate third party information nor comment on other customer's vehicles. Neither can we comment on overseas models as Toyota Motor Corporation Japan introduce various model vehicles to specific countries based upon market demand and individual country regulations and design specifications.

We reiterate our regret for any disappointments caused and thank you for allowing us this opportunity to respond
