  • Awwww Falco, that story sucks ass big time! I really feel for you mate.

    It's bloody well not right.

Since when did 10yrs become an acceptable time limit to expect from a vehicle dash? The answer should be bloody NEVER!

I went to Llewellyn toyota in Ipswich at the start of Feb to make a dash claim. They pulled out the piece of paper and confirmed my VIN was on the list, even though our Prado is an Oct 05 model. They said "date doesn't matter as long as it is within VIN range". Said it's all good, put order in for dash from Japan and booked me in for fitment 2 months down the track. I thought everything would be good.

What got me though was the fact that the dealer didn't contact me at all before the fitting date to tell me it was now denied. They didn't even tell me when i dropped the car off. No, they waited until an hour later after I've handed over the keys and walked off up the street to have breakfast, to then ring me up and tell me they are not fitting it. Pi$$poor customer service! Gave me a phone number for toyota customer service to ring, which i did from the carpark, only to be told by them that it won't be done either. It seems toyota head office must have put the foot down on the 10-year limit now. Great way to treat your customers toyota.
They really have lowered the bar when it comes to customer service. The fact that the job got that far and then backed out is the icing on the cake when it comes to a business not knowing what the hell is going on. Bring in the media I say and shame the crap out of them!

        • Toyota don't appear to be willing to budge on the issue, so maybe a bit of prime time bad publicity is what they need to reconsider their position.

                • Count me in!

I've got a 08/2004 build and started the complaint process around August 2015. I've been knocked back across two dealerships, both of which required me to attend firstly on 3 occasions then on 2, to take photos because they couldn't get it right. Seriously, it's not that hard to take a few pics and email them...

I've also contacted dealerships who have managed to get 10+ yr vehicles approved, only for them to flat out lie that this has occurred.

I've also had a less than favourable call with Toyota Customer Experience, basically telling me to go away.

Well I got news for them!

                  Where do I sign up?

                      • I filled it in yesterday after getting the link so will see but if a few of us do it they may follow up on it. I took a screen shot and was thinking of emailing it to Toyota to show we mean business

                        • Toyota are a big advertiser on the commercial networks so that will make it a tough call to do a negative story against a big paying customer.

                            • How's this then to make the blood boil.....

I see on fb that on the same day I went to the dealer for an approved dash replacement (which was then denied) the exact same thing happened to another bloke with an 04 Prado. I rang "Toyota customer service" from the carpark and was denied over the phone by them, but the 2004 model was approved!!

So we went to the SAME DEALER on the SAME DAY for our already previously approved and booked-in dash replacements which were both DENIED BY THE DEALER on the day! The 2004 was then approved by Toyota over the phone and left with a new dash and our 2005 was not!! WTF!

I rang the dealer and they confirmed they did do an 04 on the same day and they had no idea why that one was approved by Toyota and our later model wasn't. I also rang Toyota yesterday and could not get an answer out of them. Woman on the phone was no help whatsoever and basically told me this is as high as it goes and it won't be getting done, it's a "case-by-case basis". What do you mean case by case basis, does it depend what person you talk to on the phone and whether they are in a good mood or not? What is this, some sort of lucky dip? All our names are in a hat and they just pull them out at random for approval or not??! So frustrating. Either do only the 06 models and younger or do the bloody lot of them! I'm not giving up now, especially after finding out about this complete inconsistency with approvals. I have been a Toyota fan for a long time, but this is turning me. Unbelievable.

                              • Join the club Falco, sounds like you got the same bullshit response I got. I'm going to try my hardest to get to the RMS today (got caught up at work the last few days when I was going to go) and I am going to speak to an inspector about cracks across the airbag in the dash and if it's a defect or not, it is if you have one on your steering wheel horn pad which is where the airbag is also. They are so inconsistent with their approvals and non approvals. Mines only a tiny crack that has just come up since Xmas so compared to a lot on here mine is trivial BUT that's not the point. If some one told me in approx 10 years your dash will need replacing do they think so many people would have bought a 120 Prado ?? I think not. As you have said, myself and others, if your going to do one over ten years old then it need to be all of them !!! Don't worry I havnt finished yet either. I'm selling mine in June but I'll be fighting till as long as I still have it and if I can help others put even when it's gone then I will
