Rattle on front passenger door area - solved

For some time I have had an annoying rattle , in passenger door area, when in Prado by myself.

Not all the time but frequently.

On 3 occasions I took it to Toyota when rattle was evident but once the mechanic got in with me the rattle stopped.

Finally yesterday I took it to the same mechanic and said swap places with me and you be the only one in the car.

When he returned from his solo trip he got out to tell me it was the seat belt buckle which was sitting at an angle and when in this position the metal buckle hit the side , and that was my rattle.

Also took the opportunity to fit a bit of rubber with a sticky back to top of buckle to deaden the sound, of buckle on plastic, on rough roads.

Just in case others are having the same problem.

i've had similar rattle from the back of the car which stumped me. Turned out to be the seat belts for the third row seats. If you use the clip on the wall to hold the belt , no rattle. With the seats folded up it's hard to see the belt not in the clip.

Yep, had the same problem in the first few days, it is worse with the seat covers as the belts don't retract as easy.

Hutch and Matt, I am about to fit the Platinum sheepskin covers .

Have you done anything else apart from keeping an eye that belt is not twisted

Thats all you can do, plus train the wife to make sure it is right when she gets out as she is normally the one sitting there.

Yep had the same problem with the front passenger seatbelt. Just need to make sure it is not sitting on the angle. The other noise is if something is leaning on the H/L Lock stick.

Same annoying noise for me every time my son gets out of the passenger's seat but not my wife. Strange. Another odd noise to watch out for is if the passenger's sun visor is not clipped in properly.

For the record I have that too!

Ive got real fluffy sheepskin covers and the front nearside seatbelt buckle often just vibrates between the pillar and the seat.

(lets face it - we must have good lives if a rattle causes us blokes to get on the net and "share our feelings)...

Gotta agree with you there Simmo, real tragic times indeed. Finally got the new car delivered to also find a rattle on the passenger side.

Worked out if the wife keeps her mouth closed, no rattle !! But whats the chances of that happening...........

Picked up my new Grande last month and I seem to have a rattle in the same area. This rattle is evident whether there is a passenger in the car or not and seems to be coming from inside the passenger door pillar area itself, regardless of whether the seat belt is in use or not. Any thoughts? It goes back to Toyota tomorrow for its 1 month inspection so I will raise the issue with them.

yep...had the same problem when I first picked up my Prado. The rattle irritated me to no end until I figured it out ops:

Never have passengers and it goes completely away :!:
Or make them sit in the back :twisted:
