  • Prado Grande Reverse Camera

    HI all

I just bought a DAT grande in July and find that the August model has the additional Reverse Camera. I found that few people can install the reverse camera themselves. But do anybody know are there any aftermarket installer to do the modifying job?? Tks

I would head to any car stereo installer that stocks eclipse stereo equipment, otherwise buy the eclipse camera and any half decent auto electrician or car stereo installer should be able to do the install for you.
Ebay in the US is usually considerably cheaper for the camera. You will need the Eclipse BEC-106.

I have a 2006 Grande with the optional Toyota reversing Camera. I'm pretty sure the unit was fitted by the dealership. I think it was expensive though from memory about $900.

I had a Fairmont Ghia a few years ago with factory fitted reversing sensors and I thought the sensors were better than the camera on the Prado. I find the picture quality with lights on to be poor as well .

The camera is useful for backing up to trailers though .

I'm with Justo - it works a treat with the Grande's Satnav screen.

I do get a bit of stray glare with the lights on - but this was the best position for the camera to maintain vision around the spare wheel.

A simple solution is to either move the camera position or to not switch the lights on until after completing your reversing manoeuvre.

I just put a small amount of black tape on the area of the light that was shining onto the camera at night (Number plate light).
It is only on one edge and still shows the number plate perfectly.

D :Re poor reverse camera picture. I had my reverse camera fitted by the dealer in Lismore NSW who uses an installer in Casino NSW. The installer positioned the camera between the number plate lights resulting in a clear distinct image.

Prado Grande Reverse Camera and Sat Nav.

Just ordered a Bec106 camera. I am hoping it is the correct one for my 05 Grande. I fitted a new UHF radio on the weekend. Look up lcool for details on how to remove the dash and trim etc for camera installation. Have just trawled the internet for info on the satnav. Found a website called Tundra Solutions. Tundras are big v8 powered Toyotas the size of F250s. There is a guy who has hacked the satnav programme and has removed the safety message from the boot-up screen. They haven't solved the problem of being able to access the navigation controls whilst on the move though.

Wish we could buy a RHD Tundra.

There was an extensive posting ages ago about a US company that had hacked all the screens and also the ability to enter whilst moving.

They refused to send to Australia though.

                  Grande Reverse Camera

                  Hi,
I have just received my 'eclipse' reverse camera (PAL) to fit up. Have read all the posts on this and have dedicated next weekend for the operation. Just one question remains... The camera has an RCA connector on the end and the head unit (Genuine Denso with satnav) has what looks like a multi pin white connector (from the pics provided in the preceeding posts). How do I get this (RCA jack) to fit into the head unit (multi pin socket - excessive force may not be an option here!).
I appreciate any assistance here. Spence
2005 Grande, Coopers, Hellas (and a nudge bar to swing them off), Rear Fogs, some LEDs, TX3400, and several other bits the handbrake has no knowledge of!

The BEC-106 is the right camera, I have the same model on my mid 05 Grande. As with most others the camera is just above the number plate, not square but does provide good field of view.

It is certainly possible to enter a sequence (a search of the forum should find it) to get you into the service menu which will then allow you to set a diagnostic mode which will allow you to enter information whilst moving. Note this has to be done each time you turn on the ignition. Having said that the functionality seems to have been changed in the software update that comes with Whereis v14 maps DVD.

                    Cheers

Just a quick note on this, the Prado head units are NTSC units and will not work with PAL cameras, depending on which model you have the 4 pins for the BEC106, BEC107 and BEC108 have the supply voltage comming from your satnav head unit (pin 22 and 23 of the 24 pin socket) and not from your REV light +12VDC. Please be aware of this as this will damage your camera. There is an item on < Violates for sale rules> which will work with the toyota satnav and works perfectly at night time.

Edblue -- Thanks for the advice. Looks like I have got the wrong camera. Will now hunt for any of the quoted models. Thanks again for the assistance.

                            Hello gents
Long time reader first time poster

I have been looking for Reverse Camera solution for my 2004 Prado. All this time I was looking for a aftermarket solution but it's only recently I realized that the factory SAT NAV system can support it.

After going through the forums yesterday morning, I pulled apart the SAT NAV to verify if my one supports it...and it does. It has two lug inputs, one for the camera and the other for the reverse signal.

I am a bit confused after going through all the different posts and forums regarding the installation, which I hope you guys can clear up.

                            1. I am getting the ECLIPSE BEC106 Camera. Some posts say to get PAL and some say NTSC. Which one is it?. I know the Camera wire should have a white lug which should have 2 cables. 1 for power and 1 for video signal.

                            2. I know there has to be a Reverse Light Signal which plugs at the back of the SAT NAV. After looking at the installation instructions on LCOOL.org, it shows a green cable with a white lug which plugs at the back of the SAT NAV for the Reverse Signal. Where do I buy this cable with the lug from?. I know I can use any sort of decent cable for the reverse signal but when it comes to the lug...i dont know where to start.

                            3. I have been quoted $349 for BEC106 Camera. Does it sound reasonable?

Can anyone please point me in the right direction as I want to install the camera asap.

                            Thanks in advance!!!

I think you will find the BEC-106 are all NTSC cameras, they are made by Eclipse to suit their own products.
$349 sounds about right for Aust prices, I know it was up around $400 when I was looking.
If you want to save a few dollars you should be able to grab one off (US) eBay for around $250 landed give or take. They should be able to provide the adapter cable for the reverse activation if requested also. If not your local Audio shop that stocks Eclipse should have them or be able to source them.
                              Good luck.
