    Thanks, Henno
I had the BFG 265/70 fitted at the dealer. A week later I got the ARB winch bar and a couple of weeks later I got the lift. There was definitely no rubbing or other issues prior to and following the lift. And the speedo reads 100% spot on too.

      Will the 7%larger means a 285/70/17 - fit my standard 2008 Grande,
I was going for the 265/70/17 until this article - trying to get the best size without the lift OR the rub etc.
Would appreciate your thoughts - also what tyre would you recommend - from experience?
      Thanks Andrew

Its a common misconception that with extra lift you can fit bigger tyres on a Prado, but that's really not the case.

Lift or no lift 265/70/17 is the biggest you can fit without making other alterations. First problem with going to a 285 is they will rub on the upper control arms (UCA). so you either need to change the UCA to an aftermarket version giving more clearance or change the offset of your rims or both.

Even then and with a 2" lift you will likely get a bit of rubbing on the front mudflap, if you only change the UCA you would get rubbing on the chassis at full lock as well.

I have the 265/70's and have thought about going 285 a few times but the thing that really turns me off is gearing, I think with 70's I am now geared as high as I feel comfortable with, if I went larger tyres I would want to change diff ratios to keep everything working well.

Anything is possible if your pockets are deep enough

          Cheers Andrew

Thanks Blake - that was really good reference - as Andrew clearly stated the 265/70/17 is as big as standard can go (even some lifts due to suspension rub etc.
            Thanks been real helpful

I agree, even with my 2" Lift and Mickey Thompson ATZ's in 265/70 I have some rubbing - allbeit it on the chassis rail

Strange. I don't get any with my 265/70R17 Wrangler MTRs. Which ATZ have you got? The P3? Perhaps it is the squarer shoulders compared to mine which is more rounded.

                            • I have the 5 Rib ATZ's.

Many moons ago (when I still had some tread on them) they appear to have rubbed under compression on full lock. Nowadays there is a gap...

But yes the tread block pattern was quite square.

I get exactly the same with my BFG AT's, I never feel it but the shiny patch on the chassis is a giveaway.
