      Re: Spotlight Switch?

Did the same as some others on the forum and fitted the Narva switches from Repco.
What made trimming so much easier was this nifty engraving kit from Jaycar, about $40 I think.

        Nice kit there Celwar.

Just thumbing through an ARB price list from April this year and I can see they sell their rocker switches (apparently made by Carling?) without a cap for $12.40 (might be a little more now). They also have caps covering Front and Rear lockers, Compressor, Plain (assume just light), High Bean, Fog Lights, Driving Aux Light and Rear Aux Lights. The caps go for between $7 and $9 so this is still a reasonable offer.

Supercheap I believe, around $8.00ea and I only had to slice a little of the inner frame of the dashplate hole to fit these in. The LED's are very nice, not too bright at night, just a soft slow near ya leg so its not very off putting on the road. Green on is my spots and yellow is the rear work light yet to be connected. 8)

            Re: Spotlight Switch?

Just another location to source the ARB Style Carling Switches from. Place is called Total Source which I believe may be in Brisbane. They have a pretty good range of Icons on their switches and different switch styles which would not be available from ARB direct.

            http://www.totalsource.com.au/pdfs/S...hes_200907.pdf

I sent then an email regarding different swicth configs and had a phone call from a local distributor here in Adelaide. place was called Realport Traders out at Wingfield (08 8260 6355). Prices are $23.00+GST for normal Off/On style and $24+GST for Off/Momentry On style. Realport Traders don't seem to have a website that I could find but seem to have a good range of gear. Might have to head out there at some stage for a looksee but I think that I would probably come away with cool gizmos that I didn't really need.

              Re: Spotlight Switch?

Not that this is hard or isn't available form other sources but if anyone is looking at using an ARB supplied Carling rocker switch for turning on and off the driving lights then the following diagram may be of assistance:

I connected one up to a set of IPF 900XS and it works a treat. I replaced the internal wiring loom with some of my own but effectively the three cores marked as Switched, +12V(Highbeam) and Ground(Lights) attaching to the top left of the switch are the three cores used into the switch from the standard IPF Loom. The Dash Lights and Ground wire are purely to illuminate the switch when the headlights come up. A second light will also show when the switch is in the on position AND the highbeams are on (provided you have wired your driving lights correctly). The switch caps at ARB are only available with a single lens for the on position so the dashlight illumination will "glow" behind unless your purchase a separate switch cap.

Am I correct in the above photo that the icon lights/illuminates independent of switch position, ie with your dash lights, and is an amber glow?

Is the other bit above the icon a second light that illuminates when the switch is 'on'?

                Cheers

                  Hi Craig

The light switch glows amber when the park lights are on. If you depress the switch to turn On/Off the switch remains amber, there is no actual illumination to tell you the switch is being used. I'm not sure if this is how it's meant to be as I got someone else to install my spots. Great looking switch though!

If the switch Chippy used does not illuminate for both dash and on then you can purchase other switches that do but may not have the genuine look. I've installed a number of Carling Contura II rocker switches in mine:

The switches come from ARB but can be sourced elsewhere but will have different circuit configuration. The switch on the left came with the ARB compressor and matches front and rear lockers (future plan maybe). Switch on right was just the switch base and actuator (switch cap) purchased from Total Source. ARB only have a very limited range of actuators and these do not include dual lens actuators.

The bottom thin line lens illuminates off the dash lighting circuit and the top large square shape with actuator symbol illuminates when in the on position.

                      Re: Spotlight Switch?

Just trying to decide which switch to get to use with my new 900XS's. Not sure whether to go with the Newpro-tech or carling rocker switches. From what I have read on here the newpro switch fits in without any modifications/trimming while the carling type ones need some trimming around the hole
Which one gives a better asthetic appearance? (The wife drives it during the week)
Will the blanking plate fit back in if using the carling switch, if I should ever want to take the lights off?
Price wise the carling switch is the cheap option, but cheaper is not always better.

Gday VKPrado. My choice of the Carling switch was that I imagine I will have a collection of these. There is the Air Compressor switch, Driving lights and a space for a locker switch or two (although having them central may be a better option to have the hand brake operate these when required) and I wanted all switches to be the same style. Not possible with the Newpro switch. The modification to the switch plate is just to "de key" this from particular switch to fit anything and then to remove a hairline around this to allow for the larger switch housing.

Well the Narva switch dimensions are that close to the Carling Rocker one that it sounds like it comes down to apperance and availability.

Forgot to add this the other night but the answer to this is Yes it does fit back if you remove the switch housing. Carling are manufactured in Mexico I think but you should be able to find them around a lot of places. I would think that the Narva are the most easily accessible switch and that the Newpro is only available via their website.

Just contacted Total Source about the Carling switches and was told that there are no distributors here in Tasmania, doesn't really surprise me  . So after talking to them I ordered one and it will be at my door tomorrow morning, can not complain about their service or knowledge of their products.
Just need to decide on which driving lights now.
