  • Driving Light Covers

I'm after other peoples experience here.

Has anyone used "Altrex" clear driving light covers.

They come as a clear plastic sheet that is self adhesive and you stick them on to the front of the driving lights. They adhere permanently.

The other alternative i'm looking at is the standard clear 'perspex' clip on type.

    Any input appreciated.
    Adrian.

I have the "perspex" covers, I also have a beaut STAR crack right in the middle of the left hand cover, the crack is about the size of a 20c piece.
I recommend these covers to anyone that will listen!!!

I also use clear perpex covers on my driving lights, up here the bitumen roads are crap and I seem to do more damage to the covers on the bitumen than when on gravel.

Perpex covers are a must have :!:

Something more to fade and fall off. The stick on ones are a waste of time as the impact hits it and transfers it to the glass behind straight away.

Never run covers even on the rally cars with mega $$$ lights, and havent had a chipped light for over 10 years now. (Well over a million kms).

Chips come from unfortunate meetings with vehicles going to fast past you, or sitting too close to other vehicles that throw rocks up.

The first is unavoidable apart from moving as far over as you can. The second is don't be too close!

          All valuable responses.

I think I'll give the stick on type a miss. I've found out they stick permanently and can yellow after about 3 years.

With the clear covers they are a throw away item.

I think I'll run without covers some of the time and put the clear covers on at other times depending on what i'm doing.

Thanks for the input. It's helped me decide.

Rather than start a new topic , i thought i'd ask the question here ....

i just fitted and wired up ipf900's today , they have the standard white plastic covers .

SO , if i turned on my high beam and forgot the spotties still had the white covers on .... what happens :?:

im thinking the white nylon will melt :?: do the lights overheat :?:

            thanks in advance

              Billy,

I just had IPF900XS fitted last week and for $35, ARB put clear covers on them for me. Best of both worlds. Protected spotties that still work!!!

We had similar lights on our work vehicles with the covers and when the guys on night shift were too lazy to remove the covers they just plain old melted. Problem solved for them, they did not have to get out and remove the covers!
