  • The 2004 GXL petrol 120 is on about 210k, only bought it in February this year with 200k but very happy with it so far. The old 1997 GXL petrol is at 425k. Bought that in 2009 with about 285k on the clock and has been very reliable unit. Regular servicing by me and occasionally send it to a mechanic for a better look over.
1997 petrol auto, 430 000km. Still going strong.
2004 petrol auto, 233 000km. Cracked dash and no help from Toyota!

        • Last of the 90's. A 2002 KZJ95 Prado (3.0 1KZTE Diesel) with 255,000kms.

I have replaced a few things which seem to go on these at around this sort of mileage. Namely front suspension components (rack mounts, rack ends, inner tie rod ends, lower ball joints, sway bar bushes). Starter motor has been rebuilt (243k) with new internals (Denso) and I have just replaced the fuel filler hoses, fan belts and cleaned out the intake manifold and butterfly valve (all genuine Toyota parts). Also just replaced glow plugs (Bosch).

One word of advice is to only use Genuine parts where possible (I buy from Amayama). I replaced the lower ball joints at approximately 235,000km with one eBay special and another rebranded 555 from Roadsafe. After 15,000km the 555 unit is completely knackered and the other one on the way out. Genuine units coast around $300ish for the pair delivered, but should give another 250,000km or so of worry free motoring.

We pay big dollars for the reliability that Toyota offer. Why corrupt it with cheap Chinese crap only to save a few bucks in the short term. I've learnt this lesson in any case.

          • Mate totally agree in regards to genuine parts. While they may be expensive to start with they certainly last longer. I'm pretty anal about using genuine stuff I even use genuine oil plus filters even down to wiper blades on the previous two prados. This one I've used bosh arm so genuine don't fit. Cheers

Yeah mate you're not wrong. I draw the line at paying what I feel is excessive for Genuine filters and use Fleetguard (owned by Cummins)..

              • Hi all, I'm a new member here. I've had an 04 Prado V6 for four years now - nearly 190,000km on the clock. About to take the family on an extended trip about Australia and just toying wether to set it up with lift kit, tyres and electrics for dual battery, fridge, towing a campervan or get a new 150 series. Decisions, decisions...

                • Mate if your happy with it and only updating cause you think your 120 won't make it, then don't. These engines are good for 1/2 a million klms if well serviced. I only just sold my120 and got my 150 because I wanted to update BUT the 120 was a bloody great 4wd. They both have their plus's and minus's, I liked the rear cargo seat set up better in the 120. The 150's are a pain in the arse if you want to remove them where as the 120 you can put in and out in literally two minutes. The 120V6 torque is down lower in the rev range compared to the 150. The 120 kicks in around 2500 the 150 around 3500. The 150's a bit quieter inside, has lumbar support standard on GXL, reverse camera, lighter steering, bit more power, and a few other things but there are definitely some things I miss in the 120 which I think we're better. Wack a lift in mate, set it up how you want and go for it. If you were intending to sell it say in 6 months then I'd update it and not spend the money on it but if you intend to keep it for another few years then deck
it out. Don't forget the 120 also has an extra 30L of fuel over the 150

Yes but the 150 is a bit better on fuel apparently so they both the the same total kms range.
We just picked up a 150 with 190000kms and going well.
These motors are bullit proof and the reason we went petrol over diesel.

Its going like clockwork, I've just spoiled it with a lift kit & Diff, transfer case & Transmission oil change too.
Going to do full cooling system overhaul at 225,000

                              • Just ticked over 246000. 2006 v6 grande.
Last 10 months has seen a dead air bag, intermittent clock Spring issue, dead o2 sensor, very light oil leak front of engine timing cover, suspect front bushes ready for replacement. Will do another set of bilstein at same time as they have done 200k now. Overall bloody happy with it considering the kms it does.
