You can only extend the factory warranty for a further 3yrs or 150,000km (total) and the vehicle must have less than 90,000 when you purchase the extended warranty.

Leachy do you know whether the dash issue is covered by this extended warranty?

      Re: Extended warranty- Thoughts?

I've bought Extended Warranty insurance by Swann which was good for 3 years and up to 200,000 km. With this policy you
could do the service at any authrized server center (not just a Toyota) and you could repair at any repair centre (not just a Toyota).

Over the years I've had a few thing which required fixing without any issues including the following:
 The almost disintegrated idle pulley.
 Dead started motor - replaced with the new one.
 Dead power steering - they tred to see if it could be fixed (which it couldn't), so replaced with the new one.

The only thing that they did check is to make sure that the service has been done every 10k (stamped service book)

So overall I was quite happy with it.

        Re: Extended warranty- Thoughts?

My D4D Prado warranty runs out in 2 weeks so finally got around to getting the "Extended Factory Warranty".

Initially quoted $1850 but got them down to $1595 fairly easily, you could probably go lower with this knowledge if you push them.

It is Toyota, not Swann or any other finance company and covers everything the original warranty does and is transferable.

The Warranty Certificate and all the other documentation all state that it is an "Extended Factory Warranty" there is no reference to Warranty Insurance or Dealer Warranty etc etc. It seems that you are able to purchase this anytime before the original factory warranty runs out, not just at time of car initial purchase.

Can someone please advise whether or not Toyota makes an official offer to extend the factory warranty, or is this something that the owner must suggest/inquire about themselves?

I guess it will depend on the dealer and your service record with them at a guess. You should be able to get them to look up when the 3year warranty will expire and ask them about extending.

To ensure you receive the full Mitsu 5/10 warranty you need to have a dealer inspect your car at the 3 year mark and signoff the warranty extension. They didn't seem to be worried that I have had my car serviced at a third party.

Toyota contacted me just this morning (out of the blue) about extending my warranty, which expires at end of Feb. They mentioned they can perform a pre-end-of-warranty inspection for $22 or they can do it for free at the next service. They then mentioned the Factory Approved Extended Warranty Insurance, which costs $1690 for 3yr/150K. It needs to be paid before the current warranty expires.

I asked about service centres, and they mentioned that it does not have to be a Toyota service centre, though naturally, they will not cover costs associated with poor workmanship from non-Toyota service centres.

I then called Swann Insurance and their deal is $1610 for 3yr/200k. They also have options for 1, 2, 3, or 4 years, so there is a bit more flexibility with Swann.

Both Swann Insurance and Toyota Extended are transferrable to a new owner if you decide to sell prior to the new warranty expiring. So that could be a deal-maker for a future owner of your vehicle.

                Cheers,
                LFaR.

                  Re: Extended warranty- Thoughts?

Hello All, purchased my 120D4D in Febuary 2007, dealer offered me extended warranty free, after coming out of toyota warranty checked policy ,it is from the dealer ,Harrier is the company but it only covers up to $2000, maximum claim, for claims made. Extended 3yrs from end of toyota warranty up 160000kys, better than nothing, just as well it was free. Also the serviceing is fixed at $230 till the warranty runs out ,but this has to be done at the dealership where I purchased the vehicle, on the subject of warranty, had my injectors replaced at 80000th kays, had one replaced at 115th kys, which was done under out of warranty toyota claim,my vehicle has always been serviced at the place of purchase, the service department telling me this is the only reason they considered my out of warranty claim,& would help me in the future if warranty is needed for somethihg major. thanking you Cutfinger.
