  • ARB winch bar

Just spent the last few days fitting mine and its great. Had a few probs but all sorted now.

But.. If anyone with a bar can tell me, the 2 panels that bolt on from underneath on each side, covering the washer bottle, do your bottom bolts actually fit? Mine have a gap of around 25-30mm between the the bracket and the spot its supposed to bolt onto.

I thought it might be for the clearance between the bar and the guard but its not.

Had no such issue with mine... Did you leave a 25mm gap between the fender and top of the bar? if not, your bar is mounted too high and will rub the body and mean your side protection plates are also 25mm too high causing the gap.

If I'm wrong post a pic, I'll compare it to mine.

      Strahan,
We set the side gaps to 25mm when we fitted the bar and the covers went straight on.

It's a GXL Prado converted to dual cab...came across it while on a trip down the SE of SA. Didn't get to meet the owner so I don't have any details.

See the "modifications" section..I have posted the pictures I took.

I have left 25-30mm gap between bar and guard. You can see in photo here that the gap is around the same at the bottom of the cover bit.

Hoping to find one locally so i can have a look under it to see if its the same.

                Hmmm...something not right for sure..

Have you done the bolts at the top up tight already? Best to put them all in loose first (inc the bottom one) then tighten...
Oh... and the plate sits inside of the bull bar (ie: on top of the lip, not underneath)
Only the radiator protection plate mounts to the outside of the bar...Make sense?..not really?? let me know and I'll post a pic...

Only other thing that springs to mind is maybe the plate has been cut oversize??
If you can't sort it out measure it and I'll compare to mine...

Yes I had this on mine I enlarged the bottom holes on the plates to fit no big deal, and I grinded the tag off the bottom section so it would fit correctly. I have a gap of 30mm so I don't have to worry about bar hitting guard this may be the prob why holes don't line up Cheers Phil.

                      ARB Winch Bar

                      Gday,
Below is a photo of the bottom and fits fine with a bullbar gap of 25MM

Maybe try where you bought the bar from to shed some light why it does not fit correctly.

The guy I got my bar from has been very helpful. I have emailed the photo above to the ARB distributor here in tassie and they are looking into it.

Is there a differance between the ones with flares and without? Maybe this is my problem? :?

Don't know if this could eliminate some solution but could it be possible that they may have sent you a bar to suit a GX prado as they need different bar to GXL, VX and Grande.

Long storey, but I had OL in Sydney remove and colour match my ARB bar when I got the Prado in May, when they re-fitted it the second time after spraying it the wrong colour the first time, it had the same gap of around 25 -30mm......along with a number of other issues. Their solution was to not put the bottom bolts in at all.........they were serious!!!!.
So I took the Prado to T4 at Artarmon, who refitted & re-wired the winch and bar and guess what.....no gap. Their explanation was OL had no idea what they were doing. Cost me $heaps to retify some VERY ordinary workmanship, but better that than letting OL play with it any further.

Hmm well if mine has been fitted wrong then I am to blame.

I can't see where I could have done anything to make it so far out of alignment as the bolts on the chassis bracket can only go on in one place. :?

Trying upload photo but having trouble..
