  • Replacement Fog Lights in ARB Bar

I am hoping that someone out there may be able to help me.
I am getting the ARB Deluxe Winch Bar fitted in a week and a half, I really like the look of the Bar with the fog lights in it however living in sunny Queensland I don't see a great need for fog lights. Paying $500 for lights to go in the bar that will have next to no use seems pointless to me. I am allready putting twin spot IPF 900XS lights on the top of the bar so I want to put a set of small spread beam driving lights in the bar instead of the fog, but I can't seem to find any information on what lights may fit (if any). ARB are not willing to look any further into it for me, TJM are more than willing to look into it for me but they can't do anything untill they have the bar in front of them. I guess i'm just impatient, but I would like to find a solution before I have the bar fitted. HELP!!!!!

Steptoe, It looks like you might just have to wait until the bar is fitted and look closer then. I'm sure something can be rigged up.

    Good luck,

    Drew.

Careful now (as Father Ted once said).

You don't want anything too dazzling in your fog lights if you actually plan to use them as fog lights. But then again - aren't you a city dweller? I don't think they get fog in the city!

The fog's purely in my mind... besides, I'm scared of the dark

I did consider HID inserts for the fog lights but I assumed that the reflector shape would still be wrong for the beam I am chasing.

I have fitted Narva 115 mm driving lights into the ARB fog light housing. They are the kit with the LED parking-light ring inlet into the edge of the reflector housing. They are a bitch to find on the internet. I got mine from Repco, but they are not readily available in my area at the moment.

They JUST fit after you do some creative dremelling of the surround, and some tricky fabricating of brackets so that the spotties can be adjusted to shine where you want them (I have mine lighting up the sides of the road). It is all doable with a few bolts, bits of steel and some head scratching.

They are hooked up with a relay to dim with the high beams and other spotties.

They throw a reasonable light for their size and 55w bulbs, but it looks pretty sad against the HID's that I have in my main Rallye 4000's, so they are about to get a HID upgrade this weekend.

I have another set of the Narva's in the cutout for the winch - I bought the winch bar just in case, but have not and probably won't fit the winch, so I had a space to fill. They run directly off the fog light switch and wiring in the car that was rendered surplus when the standard Foggies were removed to fit the bull bar.

                Awesome Tonytbts
That is exactly the information I was after. I figured someone out there would have done it.
                Cheers

Okay, had it apart to install the HID upgrade. These pics are taken before the upgrade and show the bodgied together mounting brackets that enable the lights to be aimed. The aiming process is an epic pain, because you have to remove-adjust-reinstall the light for each adjustment.

By the way, the E-bay HID inserts turn these little spotties into absolute flamethrowers by comparison to the standard bulbs ...

                  cheers, Tony

                  EDIT....
Ahh stuff it - can someone tell me what I am doing wrong with the image posting??

Sorry for the cross-forum reference, but the photos can be found in the album "Tony's Prado" at LCool. http://autos.ph.groups.yahoo.com/group/ ... se/569a?c=

undo the five 14mm bolts that hold each side of the lower plates on the ARB bar, and remove the plates.

Reach up behind the bar and undo the three 10mm bolts each side that hold the steel backing plate to the fog light surround.

                      Undo any electrical connections.

wiggle the fog light housing out from the front.

                      cheers, Tony

OK here's a question for you guys. Have these lights been replacements for ARB's OEM items or did you have the bar with out the lights and fit them into the recesses that are there for the lights?
