    Re: Turbo timers

Wonder if that ADR does'nt apply to trucks
It doesn’t, ADR’s for passenger cars, car type utilities and light commercial are separate to heavy vehicles.

      Turbo oil accumulators

I have had lots of fleet vehicles, trucks and Earthmoving machinary fitted with either Turbo timers, or Turbo oil accumulators.

I now only run spring actuated oil accumulators for turbo protection. They are hard plumbed in, and provide protection for vehicles and machinary that are prone to stalling after being under full load. Ie trucks, graders etc.
Turbo timers dont offer the protection to a turbo on a stalled motor.
If a grader stalls after being under full load, and wont start immediately for some reason, I can rest easy knowing that an expensive turbo is being lubricated while it slows down.

As I have an auto Prado, its not prone to stalling. If I had a manual, I would fit a small accumulator before a TurboTimer. I havent looked at the oil lines on the Prado turbo, but many oil lines are designed to be full and drain thru the turbo bearings when the engine stops, thus offering some lubrication to the bearings after motor stops.

      My 2 cents worth

Sounds good to me.. It also explained some of the issues I had a young fitter when working on some of the mining equipment as the the routing and oil line runes we had to manage.. Would trust that car manufacturers have considered this as well, other wise their warranty would blow out any $$$ they may have made at the time of the sale.

I meant to also include that not only do the accumulators provide lubrication, but cooling as well.
A glowing red hot turbo can transfer heat to the bearings, seals & rotor in a few seconds, causing the damage if no oil flow.

Late response but I just finished installing a Miccon tt a few minutes ago. Looks good, works well and a piece of cake to install. I am very happy with my purchase. I also bought a couple of their accessory switches which saved on postage. They are a very neat looking unit.
