anyone changed them? or pulled the door apart and seen them?

    what size? what wattage?

i'm thinking of upgrading the headunit and i'm curious but haven't had the chance to go digging for details!

Very good question McBain. I've also considered swapping the speakers myself. I reckon this would be a good upgrade before considering swapping the head unit.

As yet I haven't had the spare time to pop the door trim off to have a squizz.

I wonder who will get to it first? :-)

    Drew.

      Muffled.

Hi guys. I am no techno, but probably the ONLY thing I am disappointed with about my Prado is the bloody stereo system. Its the standard 6 stacker CD/MP3 Unit. To me, it just sounds muffled, as if the "Tone" setting is set to background or something? (But there is no Tone to play with).

Does anybody else feel this way? Would changing the speakers help or is the unit itself just under-powered or something.

      Thanks

For a standard system I thought it wasn't to bad, the bass is pretty good i thought. It would have to be the best standard system in any car that i have owned.
Yep if you want more performance and quality speakers would be a start.
Then the next thing, to get the best out of them you need a good amp.
It all depends on how much money you want to spend been there done that

I have the upgrade 6 stacker (bluetooth) stereo and found it to be pretty good. Stereos are getting better laterly in most new vehicles.
The best stereo i have come across is in the latest WM Caprice, It has Bose head unit and speakers, 3 screens. That would be nice in the Pardo.
An after market deck can also sound better with standard speakers.
          Cheers Phil.

While I still think it is a good system, I think it should something like the caprice.
Something to keep the kids happy in the back. With the amount of money I spent on the grande I feel a bit ripped off when a up market commadore has it. :x :x

I have asked that same question a long time ago, very little response. The standard stereo is horrible, and so are the speakers! I would love to change both the Head Unita and speakers, no one was able to provide any instructions on how to remove the door panels, I am just afraid of breaking something or another, any advice would certainly be appreciated.

              Cheers.

                Hi

Most cars in Aus, is fitted with 6.5in sepakers. Most of them either 15w up 30w for a stock car. Now the problem is the depth of the door if it is wide enough for a aftermarket speaker. As most of the factory ones are very flimsy. I have put boston 6.5LF in the door of my X-Trail before and it is a tight squeese. Well I don't get my car until 25/05 so once I get it I rip it apart n let you guy know.
                Thanks

The door trim is easy to remove.

Use a flat blade screw driver to pop the arm rest padding off (apply upward force under the join). Also use the screw driver to pry off the cover next to the door lock release. You will then find 3 screws exposed. 1 behind the door lock mechanism and 2 under the arm rest padding. You can then pull at the base of the trim at the bottom of the door to complete the removal.

Not suprisingly the OEM speakers fitted do not match any of the profiles of speakers on the market ie 6x9 etc. You will probably have to make a cover plate for each speaker.

                  Regards
                  Doug

thought i'd drag this one up from 12 months ago in case anyone was wondering.

found these on ebay during random searching.

                    looks like a 6" and a 6x9"

though i think the seller got a little confused in his description selling "Nissan Prado speakers"

                      Hi McBain,

Aren't those very flash "Prado grade S/S? kick panels, I thought I might bid but read on further about the adhesion requirement with double sided tape Naaaa, sorry got side tracked it has stopped raining :?

Those drivers (speakers) are as you describe, I checked mine out, there are adaptors available from good car audio shops, this I am told by a young bloke up the street big into Doof Doofs.

Recently looked into this myself. The speaker guy (who has a Prado) said that the front speakers were pretty good but that the rear were definately upgradable.

Has any one added a amplifier to there Prado with a sub?

I was thinking a powered sub under the seat. 8)

As described before the newer versions of amplifier doesn't have a loudness button and by turning all the tone settings up to high make the unit sound muffled or commpressed.

I upgraded from a older unit to the latest unit but have found it has great features but doesn't sound the same.It needs some bass at low level.

I added a sub to the back, like you said the bass levels at low volume were my main reason for doing so...

i think i mentioned it OVER HERE but it was pretty small.

writeup on my web page. HERE
