  • LPG Conversions

    Hi

I've been searching the internet to find out more on converting my Prado GXL (2004) V6 to LPG. I thought I'd see a lot more discussion around this topic since the $2000 rebate was announced.

I have a few questions and hope that someone may have the answers

I have read about the system available via Victorian Autogas Supplies
    http://www.vags.net.au/toyota-prado-lpg.html
Can anyone recommend an installer in Sydney for this (or equivalent) system?

Are the valve seats suitable in the V6 for LPG?

For those that have already converted to LPG, how have you found the small drop in power?

Does anyone have pictures of a completed conversion?

    Regards
    Brett

Got the same Tatarini LPG system. Don't have any photos,
but gas fuel connection seats just on top of the petrol one.
It makes it a bit fiddly to fill a petrol because of it, but nothing
      that I would worry about.

The rear tank would seat about 5 cm lower after the conversion.
the muffler will seat a few cm lower as well. The car now
scapes the rear more often while offroad, but again it is not
major issue assuming your car has 2" lift...

The full report on conversion is on www.lcool.org

      Hi lc120

I notice you have LPG fitted to your Prado. Do you have any photos of the install? I am interested in what the fuel filling area looks like once the conversion is done and whether you reduce your ground clearance once the conversion is done?

        More Power on LPG

I had my 120 converted recently. Actually have more power on LPG 3KW top end and 7KW mid range. Torque is also increased above 2300rpm across the range. 90l (68l useable) Tank does hang lower than petrol tank did but still above diff. Low point is 2cm above bottom of and about 15cm behind mudflaps. Still working on economy figures, was getting about 15.5l/100km city driving. Worse case was 18 - 20l/100km with Goldstream camper ~1500kg loaded.

Grande trip computer still works on LPG although I am watching to see how accurate it is. Showing 17 - 18l/100km at present so may not be far off I hope.

Gauge is 12mm square mounted on blank switch board by right knee.

Almost impossible to detect change from LPG to petrol or back

That's pretty good economy at 15 litres per 100 kms around town and towing at 18-20 litres per 100 is quite good too.

Considering the cost of the fuel, it's cheap motoring!

On my 1999 Land Rover Discovery Series II V8 auto, just driving around town on premium ULP, I'm getting 19-20 litres per 100 kms on petrol. And I'm not towing anything either! ops: ops:

            LPG Economy

Hi, Sorry if I confused you. On Petrol was 15l / 100 city and 20 with camper. With LPG it is 20l / city - country best has been 16 - 17 l / 100 unladen but up to 24l / 100km (90 - 100km/hr) with larger camper. Still at $35 / 330 km fill in city use I am all very happy - effectively half the fuel bill. harvey

              LPG Conversions

              Hi

Have been interested to read the threads on LPG conversions.

Has anyone got any technical information about the potential valve damage when fitting LPG apart from checking valve clearances every 40 - 50,000km? Are the seats up to LPG long term?

Any other tech help before deciding to install a kit would be appreciated.

I use flash lube kit to stop/minimise valve recession. Done 40K on LPG so
                far without any problems.

                    LPG

I recently fitted LPG. It is the Sequential Injection System and I am more than impressed. After talking with some of you guys and checking around, am pleased that i I have made the conversion. Power is pretty much the same, change over almost undetectble and economy around 6km/l.

I have heard that by fitting a flash lube system that it could damage the cats. Any thoughts?

I would also love to know if the flash lube will damage the Cats. I also have just converted and am considering a flash lube system installation for this coming week...??

I have the BRS gas system. 70L tank. 68 usable.
                      So far I get
                      - 350km round town
                      - 440 - 450 open road. (No, wasn't towing or loaded up with camping stuff for these figures)

I want to convert my Prado 120 to LPG. But I don't know much about it.

So far I have found two LPG systems available for the Prado. The one mentioned in this thread. Made by Tartarini and distributed by globalautogas and others.

                        http://www.vags.net.au/toyota-prado-lpg.html

And a Prins Autogassystem B.V system sold by Parnell...

                        http://www.parnell.com.au/index.php?opt ... &Itemid=63

The first one is called a Sequential Gas Injection system, the second is a called a Vapour Sequential Injection System.

                        1) Are these two names for the same type of system?
                        http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Autogas#System_types

                        2) Anyone know of any others that are available?

                        3) Are there any liquid phase injection systems available?

                        3) Anyone have any views or data comparing the different systems available?

                        cheers.

                          Gas Conversion

I had my 2003 Manual Prado converted 6mths ago and I'm very happy.
I had mine converted by The Car Clinic in Brisbane and they used the gas Injection system. They would not use the vapour system on a 120 Prado because it can back fire and you would distroy the plastic Prado manifolds and at $4,000 you wouldn't be happy. The Injection system Started at around $3,800 to $4,500 for the best.
From Empty I've managed to take 70L of gas to fill.
I get 15.5L /100k running around Brisbane and 14L/100k on a run to Stanthorp.
Don't notice any change in Power (runs on Petrol till up to temp ,approx 1Klm) and I have the Flash lube fitted. The Flash lube cost about $15.00/1200klm and Petrol about $20.00 per month.
                          Hope this helps

As far as I am aware vapour and gas injection are the same thing, but I might be wrong.

I have found out some more suppliers, from page 10 of this doco

So now I have 5 different systems to choose from!
