I've put on some 20" with 295x45x20, same rolling distance as factory 17's so no speedo problems. They have made a big difference to the handling. Would highly recommend for any tarmac use.
I've also changed my suspension, but it was lifted not lowered, but this was also and improvement, even for road driving, over the factory setup.

Engine change due...?
I know the thread has been open for a few years now, but why not consider fitting a Holden Commodore Super 6, there are conversion packages out there for less than $4k on Ebay.
These engines (L67) are as tough as and even stock put out as much as a 5L V8 and heaps of torque. I have a factory fitted L67 in my SS and with a few mods it puts out 220 RWKW's on the conservative side. There are quite a few 4WD's out there now running this set up as it's good bang for buck and they sound great coming from a 4bee.
Cheers

WTF? where's the bang for your buck in that? replace one 180kw engine for another 180kw engine???? For $4k you can screw a lot of power out of the 4lt Toyota engine using the genuine Toyota TRD supercharger kit and it'd be able to be engineered legal too.

I just spent two weeks behind the wheel of a 2011 V6 dunny dore rental (a brand new one) and I was very impressed with the power and the fuel economy of the engine, that is why I inquired.[CENTER][B][U]Matt

Quick price check puts the genuine Toyota (TRD) kit at approx AUS$3600 or less at todays exchange rates. It's a complete factory kit that gives 230kw without any other mods (keeps factory exhaust and tame boost levels as it's covered by factory engine warranty in those countries where it's sold)
The kit is intercooled (water/air) so there's plenty of scope for further mods.
Only fits pre upgrade engines (2003 to 2009 120 series)
Matt - the L67 mentioned is the supercharged 3.8 pushrod v6 fitted to commodores from about 1996 to 2004(?)
