  • GXL 120 series altenator

    Hi guys,
    My first post
I would just like to know what amperage the alternator is on the 3.0 turbo diesel. I traded my Surf in on the prado, and it had a 65 amp alternator. I hope the Prado one has better output.
    cheers

    Les,
Deucer here, (RandalG). I think I know you from the Toyota Surf Qwners Forum..... Am I right? If so, looks like our paths have crossed in the next life eh! Hard to believe there's life after the Hilux Surf! I haven't actually made the migration yet but am in the market now.

Anyway, if you're the same MTpockets I know, give us a holler by PM and we'll catch up.

    Cheers,
    Deucer.

Anyone have a clue as to the amperage of the diesel 120 series alternator? :? They say nothing in the owners manual.

Hi, First off, this is my first input on this forum, as I am still waiting the arrival of my D4D.

MTpockets, in my searches all I can find is the output rating of the alternator which is 960watts. My calculations make that an 80A rating. Nothing brilliant, but usable.

            According to service manual

1KD-FTV alternator is rated at 960watts. Which means 80AMPS
            Thanks

Thanks guys for that info. My old '92 Surf put out 65 amps, and I am happy the Prado puts out more as 65 was hopeless 8)

960 watts hey. Treat it nice cause it would probably cost a dollar a watt to replace.
                Thanks for the info

                  Guys,

I think you will find that a 960 Watt is a 65 amp device. Remember that the output is 14.4 V DC.

The spec sheets say 960watts for all models (inc all countries and engine types).
This must be a mistake, if you look in the repair section it states either a 80 or 90 amp unit on the 1kz-te and either a 90, 100 or 130 amp unit for the D4D.

Hrmm, I wonder would the 130A be too much oomph for my 2005 TD. With the dual battery set up (and the consideration of putting a 3rd - or even a 4th - on the camper trailer) it may well be worth my while investigating this with my "knowledgeable" toyota people.

                      Anybody know any?

                      Cheers
