Well I took the Prado over to Darren at TJM Brendale the other day. And we tried both the 150 and the 120 recovery points against the 120 ARB bar up on the hoist. Neither will fit. This is because on the 120 ARB bar where it connects to the chasis, there is a small 90 degree one inch high piece of bracing metal in the way. Its not there on the 150 bar. We think if you cut out this peice out with a grinder the 120 points would fit up to the holes. Darren has the photos when we held the points up while it was up on the hoist but I havent got them from him yet.
Cheers

Yup, seen these on FB Robert. I didn't know that the pics were of your 120! I was actually in there the day before you were in there and I had a very brief discussion about the issue on the ARB bars with Darren but I was in the work car.

I am not a user of "Book of Faces" Craig, so haven't seen what Darren posted up yet. We took detailed shots though. I think it would be straight forward to make them fit. Can you email them over to me and post them up please Craig
Cheers

Thanks for sending the photos through Craig.
Firstly, I have got to pass on my thanks to Darren at TJM Brendale. No only does he look after the pradopoint members, he is someone who is really interested in solving a problem and looking for new solutions. He took time out of a busy day, put the prado on the hoist to see how we could work out a solution.
So firstly are the 150 recovery points (they look like a dogbone) on my 120 Prado with the ARB bar. With this option it may fit but not only would you have to cut the left 1 inch lip , next to the ARB bar recovery loop (see second photo below) but the bottom side stone shields as well . Then you would need to create a new connection point for them. Could be done but a fair bit of cutting and looks to comprise the stone sheilds and the recovery point will hang rather low. Too low in my opinion.
Next is the 120 recovery points. (these are a similar same shape as the outback ideas ones by the looks and I am sure darren would be thankful if you get them from him) . As you can see the small rectangular piece of metal between the ARB loop and the new recovery point . This is the only thing stopping the new recovery point sitting flush against the chasis rails. We think it would bolt up to the holes but need to check that. You could try and line it up against the current ARB Bar loop, or just cut these off and use the new recovery points by themselves. This looks like best hope and least cutting in my view. I am going to see if i can get hold of a spare ARB bracket for this piece to cut up and test fit before cutting up a bulbar... (Sam if your reading this thread mate any chance of helping us out please?)
Cheers

Nice work Robert (& Darren). Here's a reminder of how 8608 beefed up his brackets. There's some good pics in this thread showing the bracket...

Thanks to Steve for posting this link:

I think this definitively proves the strength of the factory tow/recovery/tie down points.
However, I can't help feeling there are a number of other questions that should be addressed.

The part I'd like to understand is how some can mount there aftermarket wateveruwannacallem points with the winch brackets using the holes, will need to inspect a vehicle to understand it.
I think there was another action vid of a Prado getting front torn off.
Other than that yes it's almost done to death, but always seems to get so much interest.
